This was my biggest issue with the combat system and they fixed it in Rebirth since you don't need a materia to parry
I guess I’m playing the game wrong. I was only really using Cloud and in reality I should be using everyone. Since I started to jump from person to person the battles are going better.

Just had to fight a house (wtf) and it was rough. I just don’t get this battle system. It’s half real time half turn based and drives me crazy. I’m getting damaged in real time but I’m having to use turns I save up to heal myself. Seems like this should just go full blown Tales of series and be entirely real time.

When one of my party members goes down and I use an item to revive them a good portion of the time they go right back down because I can’t heal their health to full before they get hit again.
level up that cure

I hope this game explains these weird plot ghost things that keep showing up. They don’t seem to be doing anything.

To be fair, the OG's story is confusing to some degree too, but this shyt made NO SENSE to me.

the ghosts are basically metaphorical representations of the original fans. In actuality they're pretty much just personifications of the concept of 'fate'. They are trying to push/correct the story to go the way it was supposed to in the original FF7. Light touches early in the game. By the end they're a swirling mass of nonsense trying to correct something already too far gone, because Sephiroth been doing fukk-shyt off-screen. People who should have died didn't and by the end of FF7Rem there's no correcting it.

Homie just got way too Kingdom Hearts with his attempting to personify concepts and plot devices as actual characters. The world would be a much different place if the director had taken a single semester less of creative writing. Just one semester fewer. KH would make sense without a glossary, and there wouldn't have been plot-dementors in FF7 :mjlol:

My guess is at certain pivotal moments these ghost keep appearing to make sure things progress in a way that keeps the overall plot aligned with the story of the original games.

Somethings that don't cause major divergence are allowed to happen. When the plate drop was about to be stopped they went berserk.

Almost done and this totally feels like a cash grab. They could have trimmed this down to 10-15 hours and just made it into the intro of Rebirth and had that be the first game in the series. I guess this negativity impacted Rebirth sales and blew up in their face.

Not a bad experience but it also doesn't feel like it needed to be stand alone either.

I just did a playthrough of remake and rebirth, but skipped this dlc and it felt perfertly seemless.
Remake literally ends with you as Zack
Rebirth Begins with you as Zack.

This DLC literally adds nothing, just a detour of extra content

Are y'all fans of the OG?

Not dissing, but what made FFVII stand out was the amount of storytelling/lore that was just there for those looking for it.

The DLC is about Yuffie - a character you can literally completely skip in the OG. They made her integral to Rebirth, and the DLC is now there for those who just want more of her. They also used ot to test out some new combat/visuals shyt that directly improved the ck bat system in Rebirth.

I think if these games have proven anything, it's that this project is  not a cash grab, but it's the OG creators looking back at their project and trying new shyt.

A cash grab would've been an easy one to one remake, they chose a more difficult route.

It adds a bunch of elements to the story that i don't believe they plan on re-visting.
We went through the whole flashback sequence in rebirth and no mention of the Genesis retcon of him being present in the reactor encouraging sephiroth to go crazy.
I get the feeling they won't be mentioned at all in the next game either which would essentially render it non canon. (aside from a small reference to Denzel in remake)

It also spoils the whole reveal of the game too technically. you not supposed to go into it knowing Cloud is an imposter.
So i always felt it was meaningless extra content for people who just wanted more of zack.

Ended up finishing this and I would have been pissed if I beat it back in 2020 and got that ending. This thing completely derailed by the end of it.

That’s part of it. Let the ending sink in for a bit. I think Square did a cool thing here, but we’ll see if they nail the execution.
It's not that it's even a bad ending it just that it's pretty out there and then you have to wait years for the next game. It's even more rough because I'd guess I'm about half way into it's sequel and the plot is immediately de-escalated from the last game's ending and it feels like random adventures in the life of the party.

I still feel like these first two games could have been combined into a single game with a 60ish hour main story and it would have worked better.

Also 12 years is way too long to tie up a famous director on a game series which is probably why Nomura had to bounce for Kingdom Hearts 4 and leave this.

With Remake it‘s clear they just wanted to get it out. They already had to restart development after the CC2 dysfunction, and didnt want to have another FF15/KH3 situation. Rebirth is pretty much the full 80hour JRPG experience, and yeah i think they would’ve worked better as one game. But still think Remake had a good amount of content. The filler was.. extremely obvious filler though. Like repeating that one sewer dungeon etc. But even with the filler remake is like a 20-25 hour game. It’s not obnoxious with wasting your time.

Anyway the ending was like that on purpose. They wanted the fans to discuss and have it hold over until rebirth.
