WTT sold 1.5 mil and BP3 is double plat. Hard to say Jay isn't a plat artist.

Also Ross and Jeezy are gold artists. Ambition went Gold but I'm not sure The Gifted will.

Plat:

Eminem
Drake
Jay-Z
Kendrick (on the plat/gold borderline)
Kanye

Gold:

J. Cole
Rick Ross
Young Jeezy
2 Chainz

Macklemore has to be put somewhere in there now.

The only rapper they compare to Michael

"My biggest inspiration and biggest competition is Justin Timberlake," the Kanye tells XXL magazine in its October issue, on newsstands Sept. 11. "He's the only other person that gets an across-the-board response and respect level — black radio, white radio."

"If Justin hadn't come out and killed the game, I can't say that my album, singles and videos would be on the same level that they're on," he says. "We push each other. I look at me and Justin like Prince and Michael Jackson in their day."

Lets be real...If Kanye was on Cash Money/Young Money he would be the 4th highest selling artist on the label...Or at best battling Nicki for 3rd...

That's not Michael... Thats Jermaine...

Timberlake just sold triple what he did in a week and they have the same target audience (so miss me with the "nobody buys albums anymore" talk)

As far as J. Cole goes, I'm impressed and confused...I have still never met a J. Cole fan in real life..But his base is obviously growing and he's doing it without the gimmicks and side show c00nery...

For perspective. Jay did around 300k for bp3 his f8rst week and then another 300k his 2nd week.

Yeezy didnt start doing huge first week numbers until graduation. 808s did around 300k first week too

this is pretty much the norm for ye. Only difference is, he wont have any singles to carry him through the winter

Erm he did 800k with Late Registration.

This one hasn't sold as much because he's less popular and did nothing to appeal to casual fans. Not even a semi-hit, not even a single. Not a real video. No pre-orders. He's done 330k off being Kanye West and some good reviews. If he decided to have a real single and it was a hit he would do 400k

If he doesn't release any singles Cole will outsell him comfortably.

Ye is just.........different...always has been.

Who REALLY are Ye fans? I mean, I dig a lot of the nikkas songs, but I've never considered even downloading an album. Maybe it's that we STILL don't see him as a rapper?

It's almost like.....we see him as a entertainer? He's made himself bigger than rap...but without paying those dues. It's why he can have and command huge shows and arenas, but his albums and songs you don't hear blaring from every car.

He also pissed off a lot of cac's who are calling him a racist now...

Good shyt for Cole. I never gave him a chance but I think I will now.

The 300k that bought an album without a single. Not on the radio. Not on the internet. Nowhere.

Let Cole drop an album with no singles, he does less than half his numbers.

He used to talk a lot about MJ but know I think he wants to go more of the Prince route. JT is more MJ as he takes much longer between albums and they are huge events. Jacko released 6 albums as an adult, 10 total solo. In a 40 year music career. For comparison the Isleys have 30 and Ray Charles 50.

Prince has 25 and Kanye's on that type of pace. He's dropped 4 albums in 4 years, 2 solo. In a 9 year career he's on 6 solo's, 1 collab, 1 group and worked full-time on 2 Common albums.

That first quote he was talking about Mike Tyson not Jackson

And that second quote was from 2007, where he almost went plat in the first week. Those aren't Jermaine numbers

J.Cole ultimately wins. His album is better and his sales are in the same league as K.West.

Not a major fan of Cole's album, but he did really well, damn. He really cornered the market as far as "nice guy rap" is concerned, and he's like the earnest little-brother minion to the church of Jay n' Ye conglomerate. He keeps the brand alive and reinforced in relevancy without even making similar music to them. There's a lot of star-gazing and tributes to their career successes and non-cynical, non-Coli-esque people eat that shyt up apparently.....as well as women :heh:

Not sure what to make of these Kanye numbers. They arent terrible, but a bit lower than I suspected. I guess he kinda moved into a niche market where the album ultimately became more of a "talking point" than a "music release". The lack-of promo (which is essentially a different form of "promo" for such a major artist) or better yet, "minimalist" promo solidified the album as something important in the music industry.

To say that there was "no promo" is pretty short-sighted cause basically anything Kanye does is reverberated through online-media ("official" blogs, KTT, Twitter, Instagram, TMZ and the like, Pitchfork etc). The "Kanye stan" is approaching "Pac stan" and "Eminem stan" levels of blind brandworshippage and "Me too-isms". He doesnt need to do the whole "Where will Mac Miller pop up next?" style of promo. I guess star-power only pushes an album so far tho. Timberlake was grinding EVERYWHERE and earned the shyt outta those first-week numbers. Also, I feel most people arent going to go to the store to cop a CD-R with tape on it for 11.99 regardless of who or what it is.

Mac's numbers are incredible when you consider the music he's making. My disdain for dudes blatant manuvering is well documented on here but if he can be the new "CAC underground gateway drug" so be it :blessed:

I just have no idea where these Mac Miller fans are. I havent met a single one. I guess Im a fukking geezer?
