Finally read Cosbys whole speech. Why would a black person disagree?

Ok cool. Please list some examples of a group of people previously at the bottom of a caste system doing better than blacks in the US have done in just the last 50 years. You're free to draw from anywhere in the world. I'll wait...

The Irish in America.

The Irish in America.

The Irish were not at the bottom of a caste system. They were low men on a totem pole but their position was never set in stone by law and even then many of them changed teams by altering their last name to blend in with the rest of their white brothers. Have you ever read When the Irish Became White. Comparisons between them and blacks in the U.S. are disenguous.

If you are white(biracial idk) i welcome the bigotry you've heard in your inner white circles, cause i know there have been some.

:lupe: i'm not white but i can try to understand their mind-process, i have that same thing like the dude from hannibal where he empathizes with everyone

Fukk nikka huh sucj colorful language. If they what he said would they be in a better place. they dont have to have underage kids or be in gangs or steal your know.

No one ask your contributions to the poor black community. But if I you are gonna claim cosby wount spit on me to put out a fire what have you done. Cosby has put millions of dollars toward the cause you claim hes being"condescending, self serving, and aimed at the most vulnerable group among black folk" about.

Funny thing is talkinh to a blaxk crowd. When white folks up black on black crime black say thats a separate convo for us to have . So cosby speaks on it to black at a NAACP convention and its still a problem.smh

Sorry he hurt your feelings breh.

Whos your fav rapper? It doesnt matter. Cosby is an entertainer amomg other things. The this is a hip hop forum. The backwardness in hip hop should stir up more of an outrage than cosby. But you comfortable with negative rap lyrics free"guilty person" t-shirts.
Didn't read your disjointed defensive response

Of course you're doing so while citing ridiculous examples that sum up black folk in stereotypical caricatures :scust:

Still a garbage thread :manny:

Fair enough.

But even if we grant you that blacks have made decent progress within the past 50 years, the progress hasn't nearly been enough. Moreover, in the last decade, our community has experienced a regression in the form of the out-of-control growth in the number of children born out-of-wedlock, the growth of STDs among blacks (black women lead the league in STDs), the rise in unemployment of blacks, and the number of blacks on government assistance. Furthermore, blacks continue to reel from gentrification.

Yes, we've made some strides since the 60s but let's not act like all is fine and dandy in the black community when that's not the case.

Copout post^^^

Im not white so iknow you didnt read it breh.

Why do you continue to clump all "black folk" together? If you have 4 sons and one displays stereotypical black negative behavior do you punish all of them?

You sound white breh. All black folks arent the same and we dont all look alike.

Hey I never said things were awesome. Just wanted to offer a balanced picture to the one Cosby has given. His perspective is on the other extreme of the spectrum and people are taking it as gospel. What we are now is more complicated.

In your previous posts, you were claiming that what our community was doing thus far was unprecedented for a group that was lowest in a caste system. And you spammed this thread with various articles indicating that blacks were doing marvelous in a variety of endeavors. So it was reasonable me, or any other poster, to think that you were at least implying that things are awesome for us.

The whole point of Cosby's speech was not to offer a balanced picture of race relations in America but to point out our community's flaws and call on us to rectify them by taking bad our communities and by doing a better job parenting. He did this because the event was the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education. He wanted to emphasize the importance of the decision and pleaded for our community to take back our neighborhoods, conduct ourselves better, and take advantage of the landmark decision instead of blaming white people and praying to God. And even still, he tacitly acknowledged that systematic racism was a big reason why we're where we're at now and continues to be a factor. Nonetheless, Cosby was imploring us to take control and handle everything that's in our community's control and to do the best with the hand that our community's been dealt.

How so many people have a problem with the substance of his speech is beyond me and shows me that a lot of us can't handle the truth without chasers.

Wait a fukking minute. I watched this speech live, and it wasn't no dawn 2006 unless I'm losing it. It was like in the 90's...When I first heard this, or a speech from him similar on HBO. I remember the :usure:feel I had after hearing it.

It's like this...He had a few points...but we as black people need stop putting our dirty laundry out there. People constantly snooping in our business.

How come you don't see other groups airing their dirt? On top of that, they ostracism anyone from their group who does some foul shyt like what Bill did.

Bill was going through some light weight c00n symptoms...we all rode that train for a minute at one time or another. I think it was around the Menace I I Society era when nikkas were just wiling. Cacs were going hard that if we were more like them, talked proper, shyt would be easier for us. On top of that, prominent blacks were alluding to that too.

So many blacks were just worn down from our bad behavior being in the news, media, tv, radio, church, at work, EVERYWHERE!

Because Cosby's speech is the dominant narrative. I hear it everywhere. He really didn't say anything black preachers, black teachers, and white conservatives haven't been saying. Most people have nothing positive to say about us now.

I agree. A lot of that shyt the NOI also be talking about, but I see no one shytting on Farrakhan :sas1:

Yeah but brotha Farrakhan was always up front. He called out black folks and WHITE folks. He never cow towed for white people he called them all out. Don't ever and I mean ever compare Farrakhan to that former weed smoking wanting to appease white folks Cosby. Like I said before this the dude in the 60s and 70s who didn't want to touch racial issues because it would fukk his money up. But all of a sudden he wanted to speak out on black issues in the 2000s.

Naw homie you can keep your comments to yourself cause you ain't put in the work. No one gets made when Kats like Jim Brown or dikk Gregory call out black folks. You know why? Cause them brothas was on the front lines calling white folks out and fighting for black folks feedom back in the day. Them brothas gave up fame and fortune and had the FBI following they asses around. Plus had bigots trying to kill them back in the day. Cause they were fighting for black folks.

So Cosby can get the hell out of here with that shyt.

He doesn't ignore factors and economic situations... plus he has thousands of brehs on the streets daily putting in work.

plus the noi was motivation for most of our pro black groups.
plus they been pushing group economics and land grabbing before most other people.
plus during the time of their creation most blacks- wanted to not be black because of how we were treated.... They are one of the reasons we even have black pride.
They taught black excellence during times when it was hard to see our history. Plus their spin off groups are the reason for black pride ressurgence in the 80's and 90's.. and the reason why hip hop spoke the way it did in the beginning.. why consciousness still exist.... and indirectly why we even have these hip hop boards to even talk on to discuss this shyt.

is the reason why no one really shyts on Farrakhan. :sas2:

Exactly these coli Kats some of the dumbest on the Internet. Either they white dudes or young Kats who ain't older than 18. What mothafucaks in they right mind would compare Farrakan to Cosby. First white folks would never consign shyt Farrakan says and second Cosby ain't done shyt for black folks compared to the NOI. shyt them same uneducated, poor and former jail folks that Cosby hates the NOI and Farrakan believe these people can be saved and redeemed.

All I got to say is got damn some of these folks on here are dumb as fukk.

Sir, Bill Cosby's infamous "Pound Cake" speech was made in 2006 during the NAACP's celebration of the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education. That's the speech where he complained about how the black youth don't speak English properly and how black youth are subject to police brutality over a piece of pound cake.

Cosby probably gave speeches prior (and afterwards) saying the same thing.
