lower minority turnout and 3rd party candidates. in 2012 obama lost the white vote to romney 55-44. hillary lost the white vote in 2016 57-36.

he barely won the white vote in 2008 51-47 (but lost white men) and won big in the state.
Wow, so a white person did worse than a Black person with white men. lol What a terrible candidate.

you can learn a lot about the electorate from exit polls.
http://www.cnn.com/election/2012/results/state/MI/president/

Do Obama Policies Generally Favor...

  • Rich: 8%

  • Middle class: 46%
  • 85%
  • 13%
  • Poor: 32%
  • 25%
  • 73%
so 46% felt that his policies favored the middle class and of that 46%, 85% voted for him and 13% against. 32% felt his policies favored the poor and of that 32%, 73% voted AGAINST him because they felt his policies favored the poor. think about that. 73% of that 32% of those polled voted against him because they felt he was too concerned with poor people.

that's how reagan got the white union votes and how the republcians to this day still get the so called white working class. they point out the poor people. because it's a zero sum game; any care or thought (however meager) of the poor is taking from them.

Do you think white men had the same 'looking too much out for poor people' when voting for decreased numbers for Hillary compared to Obama?

At least he paid lip service to their issues and bothered to visit the state. lol
And really the Dems need to work a lot harder on their pro-union bonafides.

On one hand, I agree but overall, it's more of a legacy thing than anything else.

Jobs being shipped overseas. Globalization is undefeated. I've said numerous times that both parties have failed to prepare the citizens for the world we live in now. I used to work for Ford. Left them, got two bachelors and an MBA because the writing was on the wall. People are too stubborn to heed it though.

i dunno. different questions were asked in 2016.
http://www.cnn.com/election/2016/results/exit-polls/michigan/president

i just posted that because i thought it was interesting. if i felt a president's policies favored the poor i wouldn't vote against him even though i'm not poor. they are the most vulnerable among us. once you realize how cutthroat the electorate it is, you just try to get in where you fit in a little and how these fantasy ideas about how you appeal to the white working class go up in smoke when you're up against a candidate that tells them exactly what they want to hear: there are takers and those who support them are harming you and i will change that.

it's like that graph was made to point out how union members took their eye off the ball and fell for reagan's welfare and crime shyt. trump got reagan style union support in 2016. look for another drop.

Were you management or in the union?
That cool you were able to adjust/adapt but you are probably smarter than most. That's just not something everyone can do.
Germany has industry, unions and are a part of globalization. It's not impossible to balance all three.

This has been discussed before. The poor and middle class in the US see themselves as temporarily disadvantaged millionaires. They don’t associate with their own economic interests. Poor whites will vote against government programs they need and use if you convince them poor blacks use them as well.
