I need some tips/advice. Ya boy trying to hit another lick and finesse his way into this Controller role at the bank. Kind of skipping a few steps but that's the power of networking. Someone came to me about the job and said they would hand my resume to the guy hiring.

I actually meet the qualifications and shyt for the most part. But the preferred wants a CPA (I don't give a fukk about that shyt) and an ITAM certification which is basically dealing with asset management. I'm weak there. I can learn it if course, but I'm gonna need some time.

My questions is, can anyone give me some insight on asset management experience, and maybe point me in a direction to where I can find some solid talking points without having a high level of knowledge?

Also, anyone with any controller experience that can provide any insight to help your boy out? Thanks in advance.

There was something I came across by an Indian dude named Pappidi (or something like that) it had a good amount of information of processes that I was trying to brush up on from before. I texted my boy about it already. If he remembers and hits me back, Ill update this post.

Bump. I got somewhat of an inside track and I want this damn job :sadcam:

Got a meeting tomorrow with my guy who put me on tomorrow and he should definitely be able to help me out but the more resources the better. Definitely have to pay it forward if I get this. This breh is trying to put me on and helping me get around the big dogs and don't even have to. I didn't even ask about this job. He came and found me cause of a conversation we had a few months ago about me looking for my next role. It's fukked up its like this, but this damn near the only way to get in with a lot of these jobs. You gotta be put on.

Met with my boy who put me on and the job hasn't even been created yet and won't be until around end of Q1 beginning of Q2. Got the inside track though so I think I'm in there, just gotta wait. It gives me time to learn some of this shyt I'm weak in. Gonna update this thread in like 6 months.

I don't how you can be a controller without a CPA.

Man I guess its all about networking and who you know. My guy told me not to worry about the CPA preference and just brush up on the areas I'm weak in. He's gonna walk me over to the head guy over there and get me an interview. Also, I just been shadowing random people in that department for the last month for the sole reason of getting my face known and acclamated with the culture cause I knew that's where I was trying to go, but didn't know what job yet.

I'm gonna be honest, I'm a pretty smart guy and do good work, but I don't really know too much of this shyt on a high level. That's cause I finessed my way into this financial analyst role I'm in now and don't have a finance background. But I notice a lot of these higher ups don't really know what the fukk going on either. Now don't get me wrong, it is some sharp ass people in there that are very smart. But it's definitely more about who you know than what you know. I'm an expert when it comes to building relationships and networking.

Listen breh, I seen this movie before. If you take that job and don’t know what you doing they will hire you but they will get you out of there faster than you think

I know a lady that frauded her way into small business management. She was fired on the spot right after training. All she got was a free trip out of town basically

Naw it ain't like that. Ain't like I don't know nothing. I can do it. I just never had the proper exposure to be fully qualified and definitely not the best person for the job, but I can do it. I'm gonna get walked over and have to just do my part to prove I can do it. I can't really bullshyt these folks cause for one, it's an internal position, and also cause they got too muck experience/knowledge to be bullshytted.

Got an meeting tomorrow with the hiring guy. It's actually not a traditional controller role and more like a project controller. Actually more like an SFO role. They created the jobs early and just opened them up. Leveraged my networking skills and had some exec call the hiring guy and put in a word for me. Then my guy who put me on met with me today and gave me all the talking points and told me the shyt I needed steer the conversation to. Finesse king. I came to Atlanta less than 4 years ago with no finance experience, a long as work history gap, and a freshly sealed record:wow:

That fake it till you make it shyt is so real. Also, this shyt don't be easy, but it don't be as hard as people think. You just gotta get in the door somehow and get exposure. Then you learn that once you in there it's all about your networking game

They told me that it's pretty much a formality cause I came highly recommend. Still gotta go have a panel interview next week but I'm pretty much in there:wow:

Didn't even talk about skills :whew: They more focused on the intangibles since it's very high paced and high visibility. Told me straight up that he was good friends with my guy who recommended me so that's really how I got it.
