Very happy for him his done some great work. A cinematographer is arguably more important than the director. They set the tone of the work and have to work out a lot of complex stuff to achieve what the director is asking for.
And this isn't just about this being 'white' awards, if you're at the top of your industry you want recognition from your peers.

It's cool that he got nominated and I hope he wins but this to me just highlights the fact we need our own shyt.
Media is such a powerful tool and far too often are we overlooked or simply given scraps when these people see fit.

Athletes should care about winning. Because unlike awards, biased/racist/misogynistic entities like the Academy cannot deny them that. Just as they cannot deny a film's inherent greatness or ability to connect with people. fukk the OscarsSo great athletes shouldn't care about awards?

Not really about that. This guy can help other people get jobs just by his presence in the industry. They'll take a chance on hiring a black cinematographer because of someone like Bradford Young out there.
