Got there around !am cuz I thought it started at 6
Went to orientation almost feel asleep
Meet the foreman...old white guy
Crew is just him me and a guy from operating engineers
He asks me what I know about plumbing...I say nada
He says ok you're here to learn...don't be scared to ask questions
He has me relevel some dirt with a shovel
I'm like ok this is easy
A few hours later I'm like OMG
And the hole that dig it was one that was already dug...I just had to dig around the pipe
I'm pretty much sitting in the hole trying to clear gravel away
Till I figure out damn I gotta expand the whole hole
Any way I'm wiped at this point
Black girl sees me and gives me some water
I'm like thank Yoooooooou
Food truck ain't come
I bought all these fukking tools and a tool belt but didn't bring it out because no one else was wearing one
I defbwouldnhabe got clowned
But yeah...for my first Union job I have it extremely easy because it's a small crew and my foreman is patient
Also noticed Black ppl kind of look out for each other
The op engineer chopped it up with me
And safety was going to send me home for not having a certified safety vest even tho no one gave me one
But dude was like nah it's your first day
