First time buying tires.

Yeah, you don't need high performance tires if you don't need them. Since you have a Honda Accord and stay up north, I would just get a decent set of all-season tires. They don't have to be the most expensive, but make sure they are good.

You aint gotta get the most expensive but you dont want the cheapest shyt either. Just find a good known brand and try to find where you can get the best price. You dont wanna be playing around when it comes to something that possibly could hold your life at stake.

Michelin is expensive but good.

1 Rear tire alone runs me just over 600

I've never really had the patience to look into any other tire. When I bought my car that's what the dealer/manufacturer/whatever had on them so that's what I replace them with.

After a few flats and bent rims. I can't even remember which was put on when and how much life is left on each.

Next time I'm going cheaper.
