Let me preface by saying that I have horrible credit due to school loan debt. I also own the IRS money as well (but while I can't clear this debt now, I want to enroll in them taking out a bit from my bank account each month, so that way it shows that I'm making a consistent effort).

I have never owned a credit card though in my life, so I have no direct bad credit from credit cards.

I'm seeking something that will, earn me points that I can use towards flights when I make regular purchases (I've heard it not really worth it to go after the miles game so much anymore). I'm looking for something that as long as I pay it off every month will charge me no interest or anything else.

Please guide me with a few suggestions. Thank You for your time.

You can always get deferment or forbearance, even with shytty excuses.

What's you FICO Score?

I already deferred for a few years so I'm already being summoned to court (too late to defer)

Not sure what my FICO score is?

Get your credit score:

https://www.annualcreditreport.com/index.action

On the report you receive will be listed all debts in your name and contact numbers of the accounts that are holding your debts. Contact them to make sure they are actually yours. I had 2 debts from someone with my name but 1 digit difference in Social Security number. If they are yours, you can sometimes make a deal to pay a percentage of the debt accrued instead of the total balance to clear the account from your record. If they want the total balance, you can make payment arrangements. The lower your credit score, the more interest you'll be charged on any and all credit cards you apply for..........if they even accept you.

Took me 7 years but I am totally debt-free.........:blessed:........I just have to pay for my tuition out of my own pocket..........:mjcry:

Stay away from credit cards, pay for everything cash, otherwise save up for it, if you can't do either you have no business needing a credit card.

Any particular one you'd recommend?

capital one will give pretty much anybody a credit card, i would give the regular credit card a shot, if they dont want to give you one they will give the the secured one

also apply for dept card credit like fingerhut, gettington, victoria secret, express. get them and buy something cheap and pay it off every few months and then ask for credit limit increases

get a capital one secured credit card, after i think a year you can get it unsecured and you get your deposit back. The interest rate isnt too bad but the annual fees are kind of high. after a couple months of paying on time you can increase the credit limit.
