In 2013, knowing how to blow a tuba aint gonna help you produce multi platinum hits b
All that instrument playing ish in music production is overrated. We aint in the 90s no more. If you got the technology to push boundaries n make things faster and easier. Use it
WHAT?
If you learn how to play an instrument, you can manipulate sounds to make hits. Why do you think a lot of music sounds "regular", and the same?. It's because most artist don't know how to play instruments, and if they do, they don't know how to be creative with it. If you know how to play an instrument, know music software like ableton, and are creative, you can make hits in your sleep.
This is why I'm going back to school to learn the fundamentals of music. I'm tired of hearing the same rhythms, and sequences, and sounds being used. If I learn the basics, I can shyt on all these "producers" out here. Most music that is out there isn't creative, it's just remakes of other stuff done for the genre. An example is rap. All you have to do is change the drum sound, and rhythm, and you can turn damn near any music into rap. It's time for rap producers to get wild with the music like artist did in the 60's and 70's, but in order to be like that you need to know how to play instruments, and understand the fundamentals of music or else you would just keep doing the same thing over, and over, like the music is now.
I can't believe people think, to be a musician, you don't need to know how to play music!. Why do you think a good artist gets the money they get?. It's because they have a skill most people can't do.
