Finally making the jump to PC Gaming. Here are the details for the comp I'm looking to build.
  • Edit: Silent or fairly quiet
  • Powerful for gaming and video editing(most importantly)
  • Low heat
  • Upgradeable to go the distance
  • Wireless adapter
  • Plain and or Slick case, nothing that looks like a homemade nuclear reactor
  • Between $500-$750 Before Tax Including OS/Office
I already have the monitor and accessories. Anyone got any build ideas, will update with pics and everything when parts come in and build begins. I also need to know when the best time to buy parts is. Thanks brehs.

to really be "silent" (which is also tied to "low heat"), you're gonna need some kind of liquid cooling. and that would be hard to do with that budget

Depends on what he is trying to do, he can try to go for a low power/noise SLI solution and run everything stock inside an H2 case.

$750 is doable I think if you get at the right people to get the OS and download libreoffice

That corsair PSU That can run without the fan kicking on would also be ideal

I just want him to have realistic expectations as far as achieving "silent" and "powerful" at the same time

Get a fractal design R4 case and get WD black Hdd's, you'll barely ever hear a sound. Got a HTPC built around the above, quiter than my all my consoles.

do you game on it? the issue will be the fan speeds when the cpu and/or gpu are under full load

Yah it doesn't need to be that silent, quiet is fine. The comp i'm using now sounds like its charging up for an explosion.
