Depends on the game. If I was aware of these tournaments as a youngster I would have def joined a smackdown video game fight.

Ironically years later I saw a smackdown event where the winner won $5,000.

I was very very very good at that game especially at countering.

I was in Long Beach, CA for a conference 2 years back. On my last day, I saw all these young adults with this insignia on their shirts.....it was "Twitch".

I asked what that was and it was explained a site to watch people play games.

As crazy as this may have sounded 15 years ago, it really is a thing for folks to sit around and watch people play video games these days.

Folks are making bank too.

I think I've seen a couple of these events on tv or youtube live and nah it was superboring because all you hear is the announcers and the players are basically lifeless. I've been entertained by some of those dudes that play madden on youtube because they talk shyt and have personalities.

There's just not enough randomness or realism in games yet that it makes it entertaining enough for someone who's not playing to watch.

I will say, I used to play counterstrike back in the day and that was kinda fun to watch after you got merked.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is kinda fun to watch too, but only because the sheer amount of shyt in the game that can happen. I don't think anyone will ever be able to experience everything that can happen in that game.

But everything points that you are wrong though. It may not be entertaining to you, which I totally understand, but there is a huge market that's growing. When there are star gamers making millions without a league, it surely means there can be leagues that generate attention and money.

League of Legends has more people that watch it worldwide than the Super Bowl

The best thing about these types of arenas is that they won't just be for pro teams. College, High School and Amateur teams can use the high end facilities without having to front the initial cost up front. In other words, places like these will grow esports locally. Its a bold move, I hope it pays off.

I wouldn't ever pay to see a gamer play, but these kids grew up in a different gaming age.
