If it is a top school you could easily be throwing away a couple of mil life time if you quit. The days of Bootcamp folks or self trained folks getting on the gravy train is over. As an underrepresent minority(I'm assuming you are) you can easily get on that train. You can get those packages in Seattle or Austin, and grinding in the bay for a decade isn't bad if you are wise. Otherwise you will get stuck making 150K the rest of your career. First world problems I guess.

I misspoke...I meant those salary packages are like $130K-$200K out in the bay area which when compared to other states in the south are like 95K. The cost of living will eat that up. My thing is I am learning more of youtube than my own professor. Realistically I will be a 33 year software engineer grad where I could focus on my field(cyber security and learn python, Java on my own to add to my skillsets). It's a masters program for non software engineering undergrad.

(I am 29 now) ...A 33 old software engineer with no work experience or a 33 experienced cyber security engineer with with full understanding of Python, Java at 31..There are cats on youtube with ridiculous coding experience.

100k is considered poverty in SF. I’m not exaggerating there’s actually a report. That you’re considered lower class

Lol nooooooo..but I make over 6. If I can get a contractor job using the time I am spending studying. I could add 20k to 30K while learning pyhton which is really the only language I need to know in my field.

Half the shyt the professor is teaching I am finding youtubers who teach it better. Currently learning java.
I'm self studying Python right now for a project at work. It's not bad. Granted, i've had experience in the C language and it's derivatives; but if you're doing a Master's in CompSci and you hate it, you made the correct decision to get out of there. It's going to get more complex aka boring and it will make you hate it more.

100K is peanuts if you are doing a masters in Compsci, if you are a sftdev in SF you are making waaay past 100k if you are doing it right

over 6 figures here is like making $200K out in the bay area. What inside info you got? Truth is deep down, I don't really have any interest in moving to Seattle, Austin or the bay area. I am happy here in ATL. I got a job out in the west coast and declined it.

You need to think long term breh...

seeing that we work in the same field. I have noticed most of the programming languages needed for cyber security is python and java scripting language. Developing solid python/java skills in a year and a half. Getting a masters in CS in 4 years. 33, SE with no work experience competing with a 22 fresh out of college guy. A 33 with cloud security, firewall, IDS/IPS information privacy with solid Java/Python skills due to learning the language for four straight years. I am sorta burnt out, legit 6 certs with an undergrad degree here lol.

Looks like you got your mind made up and are comfortable where you are at:hubie:

If you just wanted learn a programming language enrolling in a Masters program is kind of overkill. Your going to have to go through the whole "science" part of CompSci data structures, OOP, Algorithms , Computer Architecture, Operating Systems, and Databases and then classes on whatever your concentration is in.

That said I do feel you on the part about youtube being better than your professors. It's been one of my best resources in undergrad. There are even alot of actual recorded lectures from other Universities. Harvard uploads its intro course CS50 which covers C, python, JavaScript. Stanford's intro course CS 106A which covers Java, and MIT's intro course 6.001 which covers python are also on there. Really if you google you can find resources from most of the top schools like Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech, Berkeley, etc

I have officially made my decision and sent in my letter :mjcry:. The lady wants to speak to me before officially doing submitting the paper work but I have a reached a point where I need to be content with my life and enjoy it while it lasts. :francis:.
