Yall niccas are programed exactly how the owners & all sports commissioners want yall to think. If there was no draft the rookie players would have way more leverage to choose which team they wanted to play for and may be able to demand a better salary than they would normally receive as if they were drafted.

I'm all for no salary cap and no draft. If an owner wants to have a $200 mil payroll, what's the problem? What's the problem with letting players coming out of college choose where they want to play instead of being forced to play for incompetent teams?

I know someone will reply with "But, but, but competitive balance". That shyt is irrelevant in the NBA, the NBA has no parity and outside of the 70's when the talent was split between two leagues, there has never been parity. After all, there are only 8 teams that have won a title in the last 30 years (Boston, LA, Detroit, Chicago, Houston, San Antonio, Miami, Dallas). So what difference does it make?

this was his scenario

Are we certain a supernova would accept a role as the fourth or fifth option with the Lakers at the rookie minimum, when the Hornets could lavish him with a robust deal and promise 35 minutes a night -- during which he could pad his resumé for his next big contract? If you're a bona fide wing, do you really want to go to Miami, which has two guys who are pretty good already situated and little money to spend, or make a name for yourself in Washington, a team in a terrific market with cap room to burn and a dynamic point guard who needs a shooter beside him?

The answer is of course they would.

His proposal is equivalent to asking "would you rather be in the major leagues with the Twins or in AAA with the Yankees?*

not really. it all comes down to money and ultimate earning potential. andrew wiggins would not go to Miami where they can only offer him a mid-level salary at 5-6 million/yr and be behind two other ball dominant perimter players. he'd go to the team that gives him the chance to make the most money both short term and long term. who knows that might've been the phoenix suns rather than cleveland. why should the cavs be rewarded with a possible generational talent after being incompetant for 4 years.

phoenix working with less was able to put together a squad that won 48 games in the west and had tons of cap space to spend.

I endorse his idea. this theory in American sports of rewarding incompetance makes no sense. set some baseline rules that will keep some sort of parity like a hard cap and then let teams use that cap space to sign young prospects. and then give the propsects the choice. this will stop teams from using losing as a tool to get better. teams that wisely use their cap space and target the right players will be rewarded rather than the Cavs for being incompetant year after year or the Sixers for intentionally trying to lose for year after year.

I'd prefer the Phoenix Suns of the world get rewarded for doing more with less than the Cavs or Sixers.

I liked it. Give the brothers some power. They had it going to college but can't chose where they want to play. Best believe everybody will end up somewhere.

I almost didn't read this.

But, it's a decent idea, it just makes the draft seem worst than it is.

I still think the appearance of parity is better for the league. With a lot of these guys comin' from a glamour culture, the Lakers of the world will still attract the top talent.

This still doesn't fix the NBA.

Terrible idea. First, you can't compare the sports leagues to private business sectors unless you consider the ibl, cba, international leagues, etc. Because in that scenario, the best is always going to the league in the world. The only way the argument would be comparable was if Anthony Davis was in danger of getting drafted by some obscure league in some obscure part of the world.

The biggest problem with this idea would be that no one would ever say, "I think the Bucks would be my ideal situation." Everybody would go to NY, LA, or Chi. Or whoever was a contender at the time. The league still has to be viable as a business for all the teams involved.
