Basically. The shyt aint rocket science. If you have tools, can read, follow instructions & have the confidence to do it, its simple as hell.

I'm actually about to start a business in the automotive field :ehh:
Oh. That's cool.

I like car repair, but I couldn't see myself doing it as a job. Some of the repair jobs that I've done takes hours and I'm burned out afterwards. If I was a mechanic, I would be the most productive person on the job on Monday and then be the laziest mofo the next day.

I'm not doing repairs, I'm looking to do vinyl wraps & light fabrications only. I'm tryna stay clean :pachaha: My pops and his boys had body shops back in the day, i grew up around that so i'm tryna restore the feeling :wow:

I know that burned out feeling too well, especially when you doing something for the first time & run into road blocks/problems. Its frustrating as hell but its all apart of learning though.

My dad was a car mechanic and ran his own shop for most of his life, after a short career of race car driving. He got an automobile engineering degree in London, then lived in Tokyo for a design gig for a while before settling in Texas. Money could be seasonal, a big issue we learned the hard way was the constant threat of getting equipment stolen (so we bought some rottweilers, lol).

While he was here, I always got my repairs done for free with him so I never paid attention. Now that he is out of the country again, I wish I learned more things from him. At this point, I usually end up skyping him with the Ipad while he instructs me on how to make minor repairs here and there.

I remember that he would work longer and outlast all his younger employees every day though. It was nothing to him, he was always looking for something new to get into.

If you know a mechanic personally, then that's the best. If not, I would suggest going to a dealership service department. They cost more but will do it right. Some of your service money goes to fluff up their waiting department. Take advantage of it: free wi-fi, free coffee, satellite TV, magazines to read, play with kids toys, grab a sanitary napkin for your lady, whatever.
I think my dealership charges an additional 25% just for the shyt you mentioned. Sewell ain't no joke but they often have good as cars, or at least make you feel like you do.

THIS, 100x over. I remember being intimidated as fukk when I first starting turning a wrench. Having someone that knows the deal keep an eye out helps, but little by little the confidence grows.

But stay away from German cars, their specialty tool game is on another level, and you'll go broke buying those alone. With that being said, metric > standard any day of the week.

I do most of my own maintenance and work. But some shyt, I will just fukking pay to have done. I do brake pads and rotors and shyt but I was getting a full upgrade... would have taken me all weekend :camby: I took that shyt to a shop, they knocked it out in like 4 hours :yeshrug: Worth the $400 or whatever I paid them for sure. Oil changes and all that shyt though, no problem. I changed the headlights and radio on my car and I fabricated brackets and shyt for a new headlight for my bike. I'm an engineer though so shyt like that is just w/e
