Being a Gentleman

I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be rap or some type of r&b

Damn I never really noticed how many Lightskinned Broads it was in this video before. Anyways, I will consider it a cross between hip-hop and R&B. It was a part of that trend that Mary J Blige started by singing over rap beats.

I’m the same age and gonna have to reject this. This was a hit and…ngga we didn’t grow up on slick Rick :mjtf:
I remember watching Slick Rick videos on Yo! MTV Raps and I'm a fan, but I wouldn't say I grew up on Slick Rick.

But I didn't make the connection to "Children's Story" and "This is How We Do It" Until I was older with the sample because it dropped when I was 11 years old. LOL

Hip-Hop Since '79
R&b

And that’s how it was viewed her in LA

shyt dropped around the death row era and no way we considered this rap
I miss the Death Row era. With all the gangsta shyt that happened over there, they still put out some dope ass party/club music.

I remember everything dope that came out from the West, ppl would ask me "is that Death Row?"

From Montell, Domino, Quik, etc

I can't see someone born in 82-83 saying they came up with slick rick. Naahhh. They prob had older brothers/sisters they followed behind.

Is it really that hard to imagine?

Born in 81

Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, slick Rick, and Rob Base were my intro to rap. Granted it was the "big kids" who were blasting that music.

Domino was underrated. Breh was ahead of his time. His hairline was not tho ☹️
