nah ren and cube was never a debate

"straight outta compton crazy motherfukka named ice cube"
" fukk the po-lice comin straight from the underground"
" here's a little somethin bout a nikka like me, never shoulda been let out the penitentiary"

songs 1-2-3 on the debut album and the most memorable bars in nwa history came from cube. not to mention we already knew him from dopeman off the macola joint

it may not have been up for debate with you, but it was a debate.

don't shoot the messenger.

whoever made the list where 2/3/4 was in no order, really gave the most accurate list.(EDIT: @hex)
I would leave dre out of that equation tho.

dope, but absent when you actually think of who NWA was.

Whenever anyone thinks or thought of NWA it was always Eazy, Dre and Cube depending on the year. No one really thought about Ren.

He was never mentioned as someone who was elite way back then. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that he never really put his personality out there like Cube or Dre did.

If ren would have left Eazy the same way Cube and Dre had, and went and started his own shyt, he'd be a bigger name.

I'm seeing a lot of different answers. Come on flabby heads

Because we all have our own opinions instead of just following what everyone else says. MOST people like Eazy/Cube the most but I’d say Ren was next after that, you wouldn’t fault anyone for saying Ren was their favourite. His solo albums were all dope AF even AFTER Eazy died, in fact I wouldn’t fault anyone for saying Ruthless For Life was their fav Ren album.

Solo wise I'd say Cube & Dre were neck to neck back in the 90s with their landmark releases everybody was bumping their music, Eazy was popular just off his N.W.A days.

Unfortunately Ren's popularity fell off after his "Shock Of The Hour" release not because of him lacking musically but more of bad marketing by Ruthless Records, around '93 Eazy & Ren's friendships wasn't as good which is why Eazy kinda left Ren hanging and focused on BG, Dresta & Bone Thugs before his death.

Basically Ren is often forgotten because of marketing sometimes I wish he would've left with Dre & D.O.C for Death Row.

Yeah but a lot of posters are taking it personal. Look at the op and answer it honestly not personally

My OG’s used to talk about Ren, more so than Cube or Eazy....I would say he was like a Meek Mill level as far as popularity(meaning street nikkas fukked with him but not too many bytches)

He was going real sold out platinum.
That if you were stoopid enough to leave the ep on the shelf you lost.

It was one of those first rare as fukk but platinum releases ever.

This and cpo were both just hard to get.
if you were crazy enough to let them sit and fronted.
As real talk, back then regular consumers had no idea about rap at all. This was before the changes in radio as well.
I can't think of another album let alone ep that was that scarce to find.
I still remember it being in the store front window on south chicago at the vinyl shop and getting it inthr summer. Back in a lackluster year of summer rrleases. Which if i remember right.
i wanna say was the summer don't sweat the technique came out

:salute:..................I copped the 'Kizz My Black Azz' EP AND the 'To Hell and Black' cd.

L'il Nation was a MONSTER and I was about the only cat that had that album in my small circle.

IDK, about those albums being hard to get out your way, but The Wiz had 'em out here in the Tri-State. They came out in 1990 and that year was full of a LOT of good stuff. You're definitely right about that summer being 'lackluster' as the big stuff didn't come out until the Fall. I think that's why those albums got overlooked since after they came out, we got bombarded by classics from Ice Cube, Public Enemy, Kool G. Rap, Brand Nubian, Gang Starr, Paris, X Clan, etc. I think the only competition they had that Summer was Digital Underground's Sex Packets and MC Hammer's debut.......................which I threw out over the Raritan River on the Parkway...........:scusthov:

In the late 80's to mid 90's all hip hop big records dropped during late Summer to Fall. Because that's when the school year was gearing up and we got banging album's at the end of our summer and got releases during the early school year
Great Times

ren was the best rapper in the group. cube was the best writer.

DOC was better than both of them and both things.

Just think......N.W.A. had 3 lyrically top Emcess in their group with The D.O.C., Ice Cube and Ren

For Emceeing

The D.O.C.
Ice Cube
MC Ren

Imagine if The D.O.C. didn't get in that car accident, Dr. Dre would of Unleash The D.O.C. and we might of got a Ice Cube vs The D.O.C. battle

Bruh you tripping, MC Ren EP went fukking Platinum in a era when you have to sale fukkin records, And that's as the 4th star in NWA and his EP sold 300,000 the first week off of the Word of Mouth

To Casual Suburban fans when they think of NWA it's Cube, Eazy E and Dre

But to Real NWA fans, West Coast Hip Hop Head's and Hip Hop Head's across the state's when You Think of NWA you think off Eazy E, Cube, Ren, Dre and Yella

And for us Die hards it's Cube, Ren, Dre, Easy E, Yella, Arabian Prince and The D.O.C.

Ren was seen as Just as a Great Emcee as Cube, It was a debate who was a better Emcee between Cube and Ren, some say Ren had the better verse on fukk Da Police.

MC Ren got lyrically Busy on If It Ain't Ruff his solo on STOC and On Parental Discretion Iz Advised" with Cube and The D.O.C.

Y'all Negros acting like Ren was Flava Flav

ehh.

if ren went to death row, theres a good chance he would've never dropped an album. I'll take the arguable classic platinum releases, even if they weren't properly promoted. ren never struck me as a fame-chaser anyways.

chicks love meek.

ar-ab would be a better example.

You right chicks do love Meek but Ren was bigger than an Ar-Ab don’t you think?
