Just think......N.W.A. had 3 lyrically top Emcess in their group with The D.O.C., Ice Cube and Ren

For Emceeing

The D.O.C.
Ice Cube
MC Ren

Imagine if The D.O.C. didn't get in that car accident, Dr. Dre would of Unleash The D.O.C. and we might of got a Ice Cube vs The D.O.C. battle

we'd be talking about him and nas, right now.

Bruh you tripping, MC Ren EP went fukking Platinum in a era when you have to sale fukkin records, And that's as the 4th star in NWA and his EP sold 300,000 the first week off of the Word of Mouth

To Casual Suburban fans when they think of NWA it's Cube, Eazy E and Dre

But to Real NWA fans, West Coast Hip Hop Head's and Hip Hop Head's across the state's when You Think of NWA you think off Eazy E, Cube, Ren, Dre and Yella

And for us Die hards it's Cube, Ren, Dre, Easy E, Yella, Arabian Prince and The D.O.C.

Ren was seen as Just as a Great Emcee as Cube, It was a debate who was a better Emcee between Cube and Ren, some say Ren had the better verse on fukk Da Police.

MC Ren got lyrically Busy on If It Ain't Ruff his solo on STOC and On Parental Discretion Iz Advised" with Cube and The D.O.C.

Y'all Negros acting like Ren was Flava Flav

I don't know what you mean by "real NWA fans" but I agree and disagree.

I think your problem is that you're equating popularity with ability...when it's completely separate here.

I agree that Ren is dope...arguably the nicest lyrically. I remember those days well, and I had to look up his record sales....300k in the first week isn't a big deal, neither is going platinum after 25 years. Right or wrong, I paid no attention to him once Dre officially left NWA :manny:

In 1996 his second album sold 30k in the first week, and his 3rd album in 1998 went 170k total.

Anyway you slice it...that's weak. In the 90s it was far far easier to go gold and platinum. When you compare it to what Dre and Cube were selling...that's trinkets.

As for popularity...no one thought of him as being as big as Eazy Cube or Dre and like it or not, they were the face of the group. Ren, while nice just wasn't. DJ Yella wasn't a big deal and no one talked about Arabian Prince.

If you lined up everyone and asked people to rate them based on popularity...I'd bet that Eazy, Dre, and Cube would be in everyone's first 3, and Ren and everyone else would come after. it is what it is.

Negro you fool of shyt, 300,000 first week with basically no promotion is crazy for an EP and 2 weeks later it was certified Platinum. You got the late 80's - early 90's confused with the late 90's, shyt was still different and going Gold was still a big thing. MC Ren went Gold on his own for Shock of The Hour he didn't get no help from Eazy E or Yella, No verse or help from Cube, Both of them was cool at that time because they was both with The Nation of Islam and No Dre Beats when he and Dre was mending issues

His first EP Platinum
His first Album Gold

That's fukkin damn Great for his first 2 Album's, his last album's were on Tomika Wright Ruthless Records, they was just tax write offs

disagree with everything here...your facts are just off. But you're clearly in your feelings about it and Ren clearly made an impression on your life.

Bottom line is...Eazy, Cube and Dre were just more popular. They were when they were together...they were right when they broke up...and it's still that way today.

There is always group where 1 rapper or a few are famous and the rest are really not

if you would say MC Ren the average person wont know who your talking about

but you say Dr. Dre or Ice Cube they most likely will

I accept your bowing out, to go platinum and Gold You have to be pretty damn popular :mjlol:

Method Man is the only nikka from Wu With a Platinum Solo Plaque

Eazy E, Dre, Cube, Ren, The DOC all went Platinum Solo

And DJ Yella have a Gold Album:wow:

Ren was like Inspectah Deck.

Respected and overshadowed by the top-tier members of their respective groups/collective.

Just think of a rapper in a group with the likes of

Cube/D.O.C and Rae/Ghost/GZA/Meth

Then huge personalities like Eazy-E and ODB.

Dre and RZA focused their energy on the talent that would gjve them the best chance of achieving visibility and success.

With their styles and lack of a persona/personality, Ren/Deck probably would never blow-up as much as the other members. And they didn't. Doesn't take away from what they contributed at all though.

I've never looked at anyone being better then the other. Each guy just played their part.

IMO because Ren never got caught up in the group drama, it make it seem like he's below others.

Today, we have that boy band mentality.

ren was the best rapper in the group. cube was the best writer.

DOC was better than both of them and both things.
I use to write to DOC on MySpace :whoo:
I was young as hell so I figured he probably got hundreds of messages a day:snoop:

Real talk folks, even in 1988 there was Kane, Rakim and The DOC who's the best emcee talk. If That Accident didn't happen The DOC would of been top 5 GOAT, and truth be told he's in my Top 10 GOAT

actually, he was right.

going gold was still a big deal in that time period, and ren was going gold & platinum with little promo.

history gets distorted and mc ren is one of the casualties......and that NWA movie just made things worse.

You right chicks do love Meek but Ren was bigger than an Ar-Ab don’t you think?

yea but I thought it would be appropriate to use a direct contemporary of meek as an example.

not saying ar-ab was as big as mc ren or anything like that.

was rockin with you up until the bolded.

since when was the GZA ever a star, and when did he ever show much of a personality?
kids & casuals were more into inspectah deck than the GZA actually. GZA was more of a clergy call.

what does dr dre have to do with mc ren?? dre aint have no say on who comes out. nor was he around when mc ren did his solos.
