There's a shift I notice around 2015 from the Drake/40 era, the music was reflective, moody, but hopeful, positive. After the 50 era ended around 2006/2007, the music became very uplifting and hopeful. You had Common, Kanye, and Drake. Wayne was post gangster era too. Kanye went from soulful, reflective, triumphant, to full on ego delusional around 2016.

Sometime around 2016 the music got darker and weirder, more nihilistic, cruel even. Super drugged out. Juice WRLD. Trippie Redd. The other guy who was murdered. The drill scene exploded. The R&B went from whatever it was around 2006-2015 to something ever more devoid of any feeling. It was all no feelings and no friends, and no kissing. Drake still out put his anthems, but the albums were different. Weirder, longer, lots of posturing, less vulnerability.

2017 had some dope music like every year, but I don't really remember much after 2015 as being a really dope year. The Meek/Drake beef was the end of an era in hindsight. Also has to do with age, I was 29/30 in 2015, and about to be 40 now. The music doesn't connect with me anymore.

The year 3030
reminds me of when 106 and park played I think it was Hypnotize as the old school joint of the day...think this was like only 2005/6

shyt had me feelin :flabbynsick: and I was only in my 20's

2017 don't feel that long ago, but it's almost 10 years ago....shyt 2015 being 10 years ago is kinda wild...hard to believe that's how long ago the meek/drake beef was...and the fukkery that followed.

2015 is when Akademiks really blew up…

He used to be on Drake’s sack heavy.

It was most definitely a crazy summer.

Meek is the true winner after all this happened.

That year was important because I graduated high school.

I became a fan of Kodak Black around this time too.

Dude had some heat when he first started too.

I watched 106 & Park back then too

As a 8 year old, I remember that LeToya Luckett video stayed in the top rotation.

Her and Christina Millan.

Cassie was cool too.

I hated that Cherish song too.

For some reason, they was pushing a lot of lite brites on us.

Compared to the videos out then, Hypnotize aged well.

Biggie and Diddy riding in reverse

I remember Rick Ross and DJ Khaled still parodying that scene as well.

Music videos used to be like stories and u had everyone all the way down to Katt Williams and Farnsworth Bentley making cameos.

Now nikkas wanna be mean mugging and flashing guns. I blame Jeezy since he was waving guns on Smack DVD.

I really thought this dude was a Trap Lord

It's how younger people think. My era used to feel the same way. In 1995, Rap City every week had Old School Wednesdays as they would play hip hop videos from 5+ years prior. So videos like "follow the leader" was played and it was only 7 years old and considered "old school". shyt, the first MLK day was 1986 and I was 3rd grade. He had only been dead for 17 and a half years and that may as well been 100 years to me at the time.

this is true. , but peep this, As a 15 year old in November of 1992, I wanted to see Malcolm X at the theater bad. No one would take me. It was at the theater the same time as Passenger 57. At that point, it was 27 years after Malcolm's death and that seemed like an eternity being that he was assassinated 12 years before I was born. The time from that movie dropping to NOW has been 33 years and I still remember it like yesterday and it doesn't seem like a long time for some reason

I'm older but the last legendary rap year to me that felt like seismic, seminal shift was 2012 and the rise of Keef and all them demonic gremlins.
