I always watch Amoeba videos for album ideas to check out.
I never checked for J Dilla back when he was alive, cause he seemed like the Beetles of rap. Like every hipster mafukka alive spoke like he was Jesus.

One day I will do a listen. :jbhmm:

Fantastic vol 2 with slum village required listening OP

Underground classic. Like if a pack of coli brehs made an album :wow:

Fantastic Vol. 2 is up there with any album when talking production wise.

Welcome 2 Detroit is very underrated, one of his best albums imo.

Donuts no need to explain.

His B-Sides out do most producers best beat tapes
Start with the pharcyde 2nd lp
Imma check those out.

I was hella late on j dilla. Knew of his work but that was partly the Jay/SP/dipset era so production-wise I was all Kanye, just blaze, heatmakerz .

I must say of all the rappers it was Skyzoo that really made me do a deep dive, and Skyzoo was barely popular himself at the time. Go figure

:mjcry:

This beat blew me away bc he made a beat so soulful it ended up eulogizing him.

Where I shouldn't be
Got the Pharcyde second album when I was still in school and then heard Vol 2 when it dropped. His beat for 'Players' gets played weekly!:ohlawd:

I hate them comparison lists in hip-hop but for me he is easily the best producer of all time.
:blessed:

Donuts is the Greatest Instrumental Album in Hiphop History

Dilla had better instrumental projects, than Donuts.

Petestrumentals was better too. And 45 King, Beatnuts, Large Professor had a few projects that were better. Dilla's one of my favorites, but Donuts wasn't his best work. It became a cult classic with the casuals though.
