Because there's apparently no concrete evidence of the death threats he was supposedly getting. If he doesn't want to take less, they can take him to court and not have to pay him a dime if they win in court.

He was hired to improve the offense and outside of the few games Grier played, we've looked worse on offense than we did with Muschamp. Dude has no excuses. He beat up on a weak east and won two titles because everyone else sucked. His defensive recruiting also hasn't been great and you can see the drop-off this year as we get further removed from Muschamp.
