Local officials spent years trying to force a man to remove the giant pro-Trump banners from his home in the Florida Panhandle, saying they violated county regulations designed to uphold the charming look of Scenic Highway 30A, an area that has taken to calling itself “the Hamptons of the South.” Eventually, the Republican-controlled Walton County commission decided to quit fighting. https://nyti.ms/46kcICH

I was curious and looked up one of the people quoted. Dude bought his house in 2023 for 775K. The article is from April when he lowered asking price to $720K. Clearly had zero takers bc it's not even on the market anymore. Meanwhile the average initial listing in that city is at 640K, taking 109 days to sell at avg. sales price of $600K!

I've been to Florida 4 times in the last 5 years or so and it is incredible how many large job sites you come across. Entire developments of massive homes for the Airbnb market etc. My guess is that those investors will continue to do OK, but people who are buying large new builds are gambling, or maybe since most of them are older they really don't give a fuk. With the weather and shytty building practices, I cannot imagine the size of the special assessments some of these condo owners will be facing in the next couple years.
