What generation DID care about snitching?

I mean, are we speaking with respect to pop culture and a "fan" of the mystical street life's expectation on what's really "street"? Or are you saying that the subset of society that had experience in the street life's opinion? Or something else?

Because, unless I see 1) stats that show confidential informants are at a higher usage rate nowadays compared to whatever era you're speaking on, 2) instances where a previous generation handled publicly known and celebtrity-esque "snitches" differently than today...

70s nikkas? Nicky Barnes had celebrity status, became a federal informant and managed to not be touched, also managed to be apart of an interview between him and his main rival Frank Lucas in which they spoke with each other like it was John Starks having a "cool" interview with Reggie Miller about their rivalry. source: A Conversation Between Frank Lucas and Nicky Barnes - Money 2007 -- New York Magazine - Nymag. He managed to live to a ripe old age without any of the code following 70s nikkas keeping that vendetta and killing him "for the culture".

80s nikkas? Alpo not only snitched but killed close people in his life that he was supposed to be loyal to. Regardless of how many people can claim they spit on Alpo's name when it's brought up...he's not been touched, inspired an iconic character, "Rico" in Paid in Full and still gets interviewed and "celebritized" by people of his same generation.

90s nikkas? Without getting into too much, personally, being a Fort Greene kid taking the bus past the Benjamin O'Garro RIP mural and knowing about how hot the street was in Fort Greene and Brownsville considering a revenge war was going on, you have situations where, after O'Garro was killed, For Greene nikkas went to Brownsville and shot up a block which turned into a 4 year old girl being killed. People were told not to tell the truth - if you knew it - and the wrong person spend 18 years in prison for a murder he didn't commit because other people were pressured not to tell the truth.

Respectfully, I think we all are fooled into believing there was ever REAL honor in the street life. The best way I could define street honor? It is like the close male friend of a bad chick who is respected for not overstepping his place while the jawn is seeing someone...but as soon as she gets done dirty and is in a very vulnerable place...he'll abandon all that shyt and take advantage in order to try to fukk.

Street honor is the same thing. It'll be a great badge of honor that you think the street will respect you for...but as soon as the street gets vulnerable...it'll fukk you.

I do think this generation say younger 20's sees snitching/cooperation in a much different way than previous ones. Part of the focus on the individual, a complex mix of social media, "branding", it's a very real thing. Friends of mine who are in that range, and across social media, often took the stance of "Well, of course he's talking, they beat him up, and slept with his girlfriend!". There's a large dose of "what about ism" in there too, where it's not the actions of an individual that matter, but the other actions of another individual.

So his mans (who was much smaller than the scared nikka) fought the dude for him in a cell and got beat but it was an admirable loss... or so I thought.
