POLK COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A Florida trip for eight Philly football players turned criminal after they allegedly Ubered to dikk’s and swiped more than $2,000 in gear before getting caught.

According to Sheriff Grady Judd with the Polk County Sheriff's Office (PCSO), eight teenage members of a Philadelphia football team, the "United Thoroughbred," flew into Florida for a football tournament for more than just football.

Deputies say they Ubered from their hotel to dikks Sporting Goods in Posner Park and stole over 47 items valued over $2,000.

PCSO says they responded and found that the teens, 15-year-old Daimon Johnson, 15-year-old Mark Bryan, 14-year-old Ibn Mahdee Abdul Haqq, 14-year-old Elijan Myers, 15-year-old Tymir Speller, 15-year-old Marcus Judgens, 14-year-old tymir Smith, and 15-year-old Jacob Scott, were captured on surveillance stealing the items.

According to surveillance, the eight suspects split into two groups. Johnson, Bryan, and Abdul-Haqq first entered dikk’s, walking the aisles and looking at merchandise. The second group—Hudgens, Myers, Speller, Smith, and Scott—came in afterward. Hudgens made a purchase at the front of the store, then met the others in the middle of the sales floor with his dikk’s Sporting Goods bag, which the suspects began filling with merchandise.

According to the sheriff's office, Johnson, Bryan, and Abdul-Haqq allegedly took the bag, passed all points of sale, and exited the store, where law enforcement detained them. Abdul-Haqq had reportedly stolen items in a black backpack, and Bryan was carrying the dikk’s bag containing more than $2,000 in stolen goods. The remaining five suspects were found and detained inside the store.

In a press conference, Sheriff Judd says all eight were arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center for counts of felony retail theft and conspiracy to commit felony retail theft.

The sheriff said none of the juveniles apologized. When their coach was notified of their arrest, he allegedly begged deputies not to arrest them, becoming defensive and saying, "Don't you have anything better to do?" :why: :why: :why: :why:

“Listen, I don't know how you do things in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but in Polk County, Florida, we'd lock you up for stealing, for being a thief," said Sheriff Judd.

PCSO provided an itemized list of all the stolen merchandise:

Thank you. I know a lot of people are against whooping kids, but my family beat my ass when necessary. I went on plenty a trips for sports and not once did I think about doing anything like this. We need to bring community ass whooping back.
