For 8 years in a row either Barry Sanders or Emmitt Smith led the NFL in rushing

If we are comparing Barry and Emmitt then the only thing that is relevant is the talent of their respective teams. I don't recall ever hearing people compare Barry's talent to anyone else's over the years. I don't recall any other back being mentioned in this thread. The line has always been "If Barry had Emmitt's line insert hyperbole here" not "If Barry had anybody else's line....".

People have said barry played with crap on offense. All Im saying is that isn't true and its revisionist history.

Also What I've noticed now is when a superstar doesn't win a title the Talent off their supporting cast gets underrated in retrospect because people always look for excuses. Dan Marino is a perfect example of this.

For the record I would take Barry over emmit even tho I think emmit is EXTREMELY underrated this days.

Who are these people? Nobody in this thread said that. I've heard people say they were bums in comparison to what Emmitt had but I honestly have never heard people summarily dismiss the talent around him.

I've noticed how how when people like a superstar that has won a title or titles they will underrate his supporting cast in order to elevate him and conversely people will shyt on a guy with no rings and totally ignore the circumstances associated with their empty fingers.

Who underrates Emmitt? He's acknowledged as the all-time great HOF back that he is generally.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Dallas only had ONE WR and that was Michael Irvin. We all saw what Alvin Harper did when he dipped and everyone else that played WR with Irvin were all shyt. The thing is Dallas ran the ball and everyone KNEW Emmitt was going to get it yet they still couldn't stop him. Aikman could've put up over 40k yards if he didn't play in that offense. At the end of the day Emmitt played with no reliable back up and he was able to have longevity.

Barry > Smith

But Emmitt almost cracked 1000 yards in 14 games at the age of 35 playing for the incredibly shytty Cardinals. That in itself says he would've done work in his prime with or without the Dallas O-line

937 yards in 15 games

62 ypg

3.5 ypc

If Emmitt was just a product of his O-Line then why couldn't Derrick Lassic and Lincoln Coleman recreate what Emmitt did :patrice:

Nobody is saying he's only a product of his line, but he gets bumped up a few notches due to how good his line was.

Barry would have beasted with that line.
