This my point. I would consider those people close minded. They don’t necessarily have to believe in it, but to completely dismiss the very possibility because of scientific standards would be silly. Science has its place but not the ultimate authority on nothing. Your individual experience is. Science can measure other shyt, but not things like spirituality. Most times it come down to a fundamental difference of beliefs in these discussion and they never really get far. One side usually just dismissing the other. I believe in evolution. But science would write off any of my and anyone else’s spiritual/metaphysical experiences as hallucinations or something of that sort. That’s cause it don’t fit in the little boxes they use to make sense of the world.
there is a difference between dismissal and entertaining an idea. i entertain some ideas that i dont actually believe as long as they are not totally disproven. scientific minded people can be open minded - that is how new technology keeps coming. if science was closed minded, it would not be the biggest force in technological and medical advancement that it is today.
but either way, some degree of objective evidence is the bridge between people who are not already inclined to agree. without that bridge, you get mental masturbation.
also, there are philosophical people and they have some degree of rigour to what they study and believe as well, because ultimately, meaningful discourse needs bridges between the participants.
