Word, Goku learned so many ridiculous techniques. Vegeta spent every day of his life training and had nothing to show for it. Goku, luckily stumbles on some planet and then learns instant transmission. Vegeta was always at a disadvantage no matter how you splice it. Apparently Saiyans have the same lifespan as humans. Even though this is the case, they age at a slower pace, allowing them to look younger and have a longer span fighting. As far as his death being imminent, it may be from all that punishment he took in battles that finally caught up to him.

Crazy shyt. They need to make an anime movie out of that and even give the likes of Goku and Vegeta visual changes, like grey hair and wrinkles on their skin. That would be by far the best fight in DB history, bar none.

All the damage that happened to Goku over the years taken his toll at that age-not even senzu beans and Dende's healing could do much at that point. Remember, this is 17 years AFTER he starts training with Uub. By the time of his last appearance, his granddaughter Pan was grown. Goku knew that he was getting old and knew that he won't be a better fighter as his body gradually deteriorates as he gets old.
So he and Vegeta, who was several years older than Goku, knew that the must settle the score once and for all in a fight that neither of them could come back from.
