This is interesting. I guess I never considered to possibility of being over stimulated by your environment because I'm so used to being under stimulated by my own. I guess if you've spent the majority of your life living fast, it may be relaxing to slow down a bit. And the south definitely provides that type of lifestyle. I've just always viewed moving from NYC to the south as "leaving the party."

This is a hilarious post because the club scene in the south far surpassed NYC ages ago.

As far as nightlife,

ATL >>>> NYC

MIA >>>>>>>>> NYC

HOU >>>> NYC

If we expanded past the south there’s quite a few cities I would rank above NYC when it came to nightlife. NYC is carribean or hispanic influenced nightlife with shytty strip joints where you actually want to see the bar tenders :russ:

to some respect it is "leaving the party"

but to be fair only the attendee can tell you when enough is enough

some people can spend a few hours, some have to party all night and others hate people so will never attend

every person i kno who moved down south was "over" the party or personally; my favorite which is not realizing you were at a party to begin with.

some people only see the negative (noise, cost, space, people)

clearly there is a trade you make with urban vs suburban living

also some people party the same regardless where they are located even in new york city

( 9 to 5, eat sleep drink shyt same places on repeat )

the people who love the city stay; the people who dont move away

some love it from afar better

for me this is the capital of the planet and i couldnt imagine living anywhere else

Um...okay? But what about opportunity? What about being close to systems of production, and social circles, that enable you to be inspired and grow professionally. It just seems like the south is great if you want a basic existence. NYC seems so next tier to me. The south seems like where you go to retire. Don't get me wrong, I know there are pockets here and there, in the south, that offer a similar experience to NYC, but the places you listed kind of prove my point. Those states are so far away from one another, and even within those states, locations are so spread out that the ease with which to access them pales in comparison to what NYC has to offer. Maybe if there were some maglev type train system that connected all southern states then you'd have a better argument.

Lol what:russ:

Who’s participating in those systems of production in NYC? Who gets “opportunity”? It sure isn’t black people. The black upper middle class is by far more robust in the south.

Top 10 cities for black people. Pay attention to where the cities are and where they aren’t.

You seem to be the typical nothern poster who hasn’t actually been anywhere outside of whatever hole you lived in in NYC and doesn’t actually know about the south or country in general. Or maybe you’re not black.

Either way NYC is not a top 10 location for black wealth so this opportunity argument seems silly.

I left the Bronx for atlanta. Going on 1 year plus.
Best move I prob made. The city fits my career because of the amount of law firms and insurance carriers here. It's Damm near the mecca of insurance/law firms. It will be real hard for me to not find a job here. I got snatched up quick when I first moved out here. Only took 2 months for me to get many job offers once I changed my resume to Atlanta address.

My apartment has way more ammendities , lower cost of rent and I have access to everything in walking or driving distance.
Where I live at now , would run me prob 2.5k or 3k in NYC a month.

I can leave my apartment, get on the Marta across the street and be at the airport boarding a plane in 30 minutes. Plus we have the biggest airport in the country. Cant beat that shyt.

Nightlife/food/beverage. Access to all types of food and if I want to get country I can get out the city limits and see the country. Nightclubs , lounges, I don't really need to say more, atlanta speaks for itself.

We got nature out here and I love how atlanta hasn't burned down all their trees.

Access to some nice housing.
The city of Atlanta is really a transient city so many folks are out of town and to keep it a buck.

I feel women atlanta dress better than new yoek women. It could be the weather I dunno. But they be on their shyt out here.

These threads NYC vs South threads are tired. I love NYC but sometimes my fellow NYers act like the entire country outside of the five boroughs is some wasteland with tumbleweeds and people just be fiddling their thumbs. Most of the cities in the south are nice in their own right (Tampa, ATL, Charlotte just to name a few)

Plus theres quite a few quiet Surbuban neighborhoods in NYC, not every neighborhood in NY is Soho or the East Village or LES.

Because regardless of where you live in the south, you're going to have the same experience of having to get in your car (for which you will have a car note), and driving 30 minutes to the closest generic strip mall. The south is okay, for what it is, but I just can't imagine the culture shock it must be to leave somewhere like NYC and move somewhere like the south. It seems almost depressing to me.

This is far from the truth

I've lived in the south my entire life. I'm bored with it. Its why I can't wrap my head around someone leaving NYC, and moving here. I can understand if its for financial purposes, but I'm more interested in the psychological aspect of moving here from a place like NYC. I do agree with you regarding the south and black wealth. It just seems like so much more is possible in NYC. Maybe I'm getting caught up in the hype. I don't hate the south, I just think it's boring here, and I like the idea of going to sleep and still being surrounded by people who are out and about doing their own thing. Everything closes at 9pm where I'm from. Its boring.
