I've lived in the south my entire life. I'm bored with it. Its why I can't wrap my head around someone leaving NYC, and moving here. I can understand if its for financial purposes, but I'm more interested in the psychological aspect of moving here from a place like NYC. I do agree with you regarding the south and black wealth. It just seems like so much more is possible in NYC. Maybe I'm getting caught up in the hype. I don't hate the south, I just think it's boring here, and I like the idea of going to sleep and still being surrounded by people who are out and about doing their own thing. Everything closes at 9pm where I'm from. Its boring.

I’m someone who’s grown up in the south as well and the only thing I can say is that outside the south isn’t what it seemed for me. Its really just changing lifestyles. I guess it depends on what you’re looking for.

Outside of the south and probably midwest, very few people seem to have a concept of land ownership. Its a very large downgrade in lifestyle personally. In cities like NYC it also seems common to not have a car which I think is another huge downgrade in lifestyle. Even having lived in Europe in big cities with top tier city transit its still a downgrade not at least having the option of driving yourself.

I grew up on a plot of land that I thought was modest compared to people who had alot more but what I lived in would easily fetch me $2M+ in SoCal where I live now. Also the black wealth thing comes into play as well because while I’m one of the highest paid people here statistically, you get :mjpls: looks around here if you don’t have something on that demonstrates your income level.

As someone who’s been around the world I can honestly say that the south is the only place where I didn’t have to rethink being black because I was always surrounded by black people. Its not like that outside the south.

Don't slander BX, we got some of the BADDEST dominican broads out there next to Washington Heights.

But They dont like black folks from black immigrant countries or Black American dudes. :mjpls:

Queens has the best diverse women with higher incomes. BX is low hanging fruit to get women.

Now I wouldn’t live there at all for various reasons.

I left the Bronx for atlanta. Going on 1 year plus.
Best move I prob made. The city fits my career because of the amount of law firms and insurance carriers here. It's Damm near the mecca of insurance/law firms. It will be real hard for me to not find a job here. I got snatched up quick when I first moved out here. Only took 2 months for me to get many job offers once I changed my resume to Atlanta address.

My apartment has way more ammendities , lower cost of rent and I have access to everything in walking or driving distance.
Where I live at now , would run me prob 2.5k or 3k in NYC a month.

I can leave my apartment, get on the Marta across the street and be at the airport boarding a plane in 30 minutes. Plus we have the biggest airport in the country. Cant beat that shyt.

Nightlife/food/beverage. Access to all types of food and if I want to get country I can get out the city limits and see the country. Nightclubs , lounges, I don't really need to say more, atlanta speaks for itself.

We got nature out here and I love how atlanta hasn't burned down all their trees.

Access to some nice housing.
The city of Atlanta is really a transient city so many folks are out of town and to keep it a buck.

I feel women atlanta dress better than new yoek women. It could be the weather I dunno. But they be on their shyt out here.
Men Dress better too

What part, out of curiosity?

I'm planning a move in the next year and a half and have recently started considering FL (the Fort Lauderdale area or further North).
On treasure coast rn. Can get a 3 bd 2 ba for 250k. Food is somewhat cheaper. Cars are cheaper. Have to drive everywhere, nearest store to me is 1 mile away. Great temperature. Ft Lauderdale is about 1 hr away from me.

Moved to NC with a wife and two kids. Best decision I've made. Wouldn't have gotten into the career I'm in right now (Clinical Research) had I not moved. Home ownership was definitely easier down here. I still miss the "hood energy" of the streets, but not enough to move back there and live. Plus I hate snow LOL

Because regardless of where you live in the south, you're going to have the same experience of having to get in your car (for which you will have a car note), and driving 30 minutes to the closest generic strip mall. The south is okay, for what it is, but I just can't imagine the culture shock it must be to leave somewhere like NYC and move somewhere like the south. It seems almost depressing to me.
You do realize that big cities in the South have their own urban centers and older centralized neighborhoods. Having to drive “30mins to the nearest generic strip mall” is all dependent on what part of the metro you live in. You act as if all 90million+ Southerers live on average 20mins apart. “Urban” isn’t just a magical term reserved for New York City. Imagine thinking Houston, Miami, Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans, or Charlotte are rural areas in which you’d have to “drive 30 minutes to get to the nearest generic strip mall.” :mjlol:

My point was that you have to drive everywhere, and sometimes it can become overwhelming; when you just want to be somewhere, and remember that you’re going to have to drive to your destination.

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
- Do you prefer living in the south to living in NYC?
- If you moved for financial reasons, would you move back to NYC if you could afford it?
- Are you bored by the slower southern pace?
- What is better/worse about living in the south compared to NYC?
- Do you plan on living in the south forever?

I ask because I've always wondered what it must be like to leave somewhere as "lively" as NYC and move to the south...which isn't as interesting overall.

I lived in west palm beach for a while with my brothers. Didn’t like it all.

I also spent time with cousins in Dallas, GA.

Beautiful houses. Didn’t like it all.

If I were to move to the south it would have to be Downtown Miami or downtown Fort Lauderdale and Midtown Atlanta. I cannot adjust to living down south at all. It’s very hard.
