For people crying about NBA parity, from 1980 to 2010, 6 franchises won 28 of the 30 years

just alone, the Bulls, Celtics, Spurs, Lakers won 23 out of 30... add in Pistons, Rockets and you get 28 out of 30. Only the 83 76ers and 06 heat are the outliers .

in the NBA's prime years, the 80s and 90s, only 5 teams won.

Magic made the Finals 9/12 times in his career...:gucci:

this is why we have to stop with this "you have to win a championship or your career is a failure" type stuff. it's doesnt make sense from a historical point of view.

i been saying this breh...but the lebron hater fan club ignores it and continues to holler the east is weak :yeshrug:

i don't think you understand fandom and their idea parity. parity doesn't mean in fan terms that different teams win titles, parity means different teams have a CHANCE at a title. the last 10 years their has absolutely been parity in the league . the league has also been better than ever as far as exposure. NBA thrives on nba fans having delusional thoughts of their team having a chance to win. you wont have that now

It doesn't matter historically, but it does to fans :yeshrug:

I read the whole post:ehh:, I just snipped it for space sake:whoa:

This is exactly my point though. The very "fans" that fondly remember struggles are the ones who shyt on athletes for not winning in the moment.

The same writer who wrote "MR. UNRELIABLE" will someday write a piece that tells how great it was to have covered KD's career.

All the Heat fans who were PISSED at DWade missing all those games in the regular season and still not showing up in the Finals in '14 are like "DWade come home!"

Fans are fickle beings.

We as fans have propped up MJ and his championships SO FAR that every player who enters the league is thinking "Championship or bust."

We shyt on organizations who don't follow the "championship or bust" formula ala the current Clippers or the Josh Smith Hawks a few years ago.

We as fans are never satisfied with 2nd round exits or Game 7 WCF losses.

LeBron's whole career pre-Miami is considered a series of failures. I gurantee you Tracy McGrady would KILL to have been able to do the things Bron did in those 7 years...but again the bar is "championship or bust." Bron didn't make it that way. The fans did.

The 2013 ECF was one of my favorite seires EVER. That game 1 was a fukking incredible showing by both teams.

But it means jack ass shyt in the big picture though.

Brodie that's been gone for YEARS now.

It's been "you need a superstar or else tank" status for YEARS now.

CP3 and Melo been getting shyt on for YEARS now.

Lakers fans were actively rooting for their team to lose this year...THE LAKERS breh.

There was not a single Celtics fan that thought they could win the Chip this year. They were the ONE SEED breh.

NO ONE IS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE NUMBER OF TEAMS WHO WON THE TITLE.

PPL ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT
BRON PLAYING ON A SUPERTEAM IN THE WEAK EAST
AND GOING TO 7 STRAIGHT FINALS
JUST TO HAVE SOME OF THE MOST EMBARASSING LOSES
IN NBA HISTORY.

BUT YOU KNEW THIS
BEFORE YOU MADE THIS THREAD.

Why I know this nikka would be the first one to bring up Bron in this thread? :dead:

The NBA should look to the NHL for tips

Revenue sharing changed the game
Tips on what? how to be irrelevant?

The NBA is making more money than ever. TV ratings are great. International interest is great. The players are great.

It's really the opposite. NHL might want to give Silver a call.:sas1:

The Clippers "had a shot" for a couple years here recently.

You could say the Pacers "had a shot" for that 2-3 year run.

Portland "had a shot" in the late 80's/early 90's and again in the late 90's/00's...

Kings "Had a shot." Suns "had a shot." Jazz "had a shot." Nets "Had a shot."

Now, answer me this.

Does anybody EVER say "man I miss the 90's era of basketball...mainly the TrailBlazers:ahh:"?????

Or how about "Chris Webber's Kings....they just don't make teams like that anymore:ahh:"?????

fukk no. They remember Jordan's Bulls, Shaq and Kobe's Lakers, Duncan's Spurs, LeBron's Heat....

Nobody gives a shyt about how hard it was for the Suns to beat the Sonics in 93.

All they know (if they know anything) is that Charles got smoked by Mike in the finals. That's all that matters historically.
Actually...this is exactly what I mean when I talk about parity (I understand it may not be the case for everyone) : even if we did know Chicago was more than likely to win the title, we were seeing real intense competitive playoffs series before that. It's true that not that many teams have won the title, every NBA fan knows that. But that's because winning an NBA title is extremely hard, what with free agency, trades, injuries, etc...that's why the window is small (OKC) and why you end with the same organizations (Spurs/Heat) and/or players (MJ, Kobe/Shaq, Bron) because they find some kind of "formula" that works. And that's why other teams/players are always one step behind (Pacers, Knicks, Jazz, Kings, Clippers).

What I think we're really talking about is other teams at least presenting a legit obstacle for whoever ends up in the Finals one particular year. Maybe casuals think in the way you're talking in the bolded, but true NBA fans actualy do care about the 2nd round, etc. Knicks were one Charles Smith mental lapse to pushing the Bulls to 7, the Pacers actually did. Great series. Lakers had their battles, Spurs too, Celtics...etc. I still remember that Atlanta-Boston series in 2008, and I'm a fan of neither team. Boston-Chicago the following year was one of the best series I've ever seen, and neither team even made it to the Conference Finals. And yes for some fans it DOES matter that the Suns struggled to beat not only the Sonics, but the Lakers in the first round, because it made for competitive basketball. It doesn't matter historically, but it does to fans :yeshrug:

What are you talking about? ONly casual fans talk about just champions. Iverson never won a ring and people still talk about tht 2001 sixer team. Iverson stepping over Lue still gets replayed to this day. the negative i would say is that when people talk about those teams, it's always the what if, what if. but fans do recognize those great teams that didnt win.

This isn't about parity.. This is about no one being able to "compete" which is entirely different.... but its not an issue right now...... but if they do this type of shyt next year and KD signs a multi year deal then yeah, viewership will drop...

Since the Spurs sleep walk to 50 wins ever year, have one of if not the best player in the nba, and can now actually get meetings with and sign big name free agents (signed LMA, number 2 on KD list, linked to Chris Paul, shyt even Pau Gasol is one of their "biggest" free agent signings ever) I fully support this super team wave:mjgrin:

I am fully in support of the spurs being able to pursue really talented nba players instead of having to coach up danny green for 3 years just to dribble a basketball in a straight line

Come on home PG you know damn well you were always meant to play with Kawhical

I hear what you're saying...but myself, as a fan of the game, I don't recognize myself in that :yeshrug:Like I said in my first post, I'm aware my position may not be the one of the majority, but I DO care about the what ifs, the 2nd round, etc...and while I do put more emphasis on who actually wins the championship, I'm not one of those "championship or bust" types. I understand great players might not win for tons of reasons. I don't hold it against Ewing, Miller or Barkley that they never won. I don' shyt on Melo because we haven't won with him. So I won't put myself in that "we", I personnaly would like the Knicks to win (of course) but as long as we build year after year and show effort and a real TEAM, I'm good. I'm amd at the Knicks becase we'e not even doing that.
Hell back then all that mattered to me was that we beat the Heat or the Pacers in the playoffs, the rest was extra :russ:

All I'm saying is that I understand your pov, but as a fan of the game I won't put myself in that "we". I honestly care as much for a Game 6 in the 2nd round as I do a Game 6 in the Finals, as long as it's intense competitive basketball. And I do remember those games.

What are you talking about? ONly casual fans talk about just champions. Iverson never won a ring and people still talk about tht 2001 sixer team. Not sure if you meant to quote me but we agree.
