But Netflix has the advantage of making foreign content.

There won’t be a Japanese Hanna Montana on Disney+.
Only Apple is funding foreign original content.

TechCrunch is part of the Yahoo family of brands

The problem with Netflix is greed, the binge watch model of releasing shows, and producing crap.

1) The numbers were always going to level off. Greedy people think about what they can do to attract new users to the detriment of existing customers.

I believe this factors into cancelling shows. I also imagine they cancel shows when the actors are in a position to renegotiate their contracts.

Instead of attempting to achieve continuous growth, I think they should look at acceptable margins and monitor the activity over a period of time.

2) I don't think the binge watch method is healthy. It was fun at first, but now it is a chore and if a series doesn't hit the ground running, it is dismissed as trash.

I think they'd do well to release episodes in blocks so that they don't need to strike gold with every new series to keep people coming back.

3) Up the quality. A lot of Netflix films have the stink of cheap on them. Either stick to TV shows or increase the budget to remove that straight to VHS feel.

I unsubscribed because I’m always overwhelmed by what’s on which ends up with me not watching anything :mjlol:
I am glad you feel that way, I'm not the only one. My girl has all those streaming platform options and I end up watching Bob's Burgers or To Catch a Smuggler or going back to my Youtube subs out of habit. I'm overwhelmed by the choices. I will legit sit there scrolling through shyt until I just give up and go back to what I mentioned.

*scrolls for an hour and a half to find a show to watch*
*doesn't like show*
*tries again the day after*
*same results*

Every time I login they’re suggesting some corny Indian movie.

I been cancelled Netflix . My two fav shows were cancelled or put on hold for 3 years. I’m sure they will get some of those people back when stranger things comes back. They might wanna start releasing an episode a week. My husband already saying he’s getting Netflix only in may and September.

Two of the biggest problems i see with netflix is that the recommendation and search feature is straight garbage. They have decent content but they make it hard to find. They also need to go back to the traditional model of weekly release at least for their top shows. People are binging on their shows and forgetting about them right after. There is no time to build up anticipation, theories etc like other big shows.

That's what I'm looking at as well. It said they still had 221 million subscribers and they made $1.9 billion in profit...how is that a loss? This speculative stock market is crazy!

markets are forward looking, investors invest for future growth and this could be a sign of the end of it for netflix. They won't be able to raise prices further for a while and gaining market share is getting harder with more competitors in the space. they are in a tough spot.

It’s actually kinda funny when I remember growing up and I was often bored because there was nothing to watch on tv. Now there’s too much to watch :mjlol:

Unnatural growth due to the pandemic was never sustainable. People are coming outside again :yeshrug:

also, Netflix can feel overwhelming. Their business model is focused around quantity rather than quality. They spray and pray they will hit something. I also don’t think they do a good job at cataloging new content
