For the Non-Holmesian Brehs: A Pickup Basketball Question

I’m 35 and been hooping since I was 5. I done played thousands of pickup games in my hometown of Atlanta and all around the world in places I’ve lived. One of the main rules that’s been different everywhere is the And-1 call

You go for a layup, get fouled and say “AND-1” but MISS. The way I grew up it’s a miss and you keep playing, and-1 is only respected and counts if you make the bucket.

It differs from city to city and gym to gym, how did you play growing up?

That shyt ain't honored. You call foul and make a bucket. That shyt getting checked ball and the point don't count. You don't get ppints for making calls.

If you playing a high skilled group. There usually are no calls or blacktop violation level calls.
Yet you could get stuck playing full court with randoms. Where there is a hack committe and now you could encounter an issue. Or sevetal contentious could turn to violent death issues.

You gotta be playing with a group that tolerates your shyt. To even get a call honored.

You play through or die.

Simple as that.

I notice other regions be trying to treat out of towners with offbrand rules in hoops. So i already see the okie doke. Yet i know for damn sure. None of those people would try their rule bending bullshyt in the chi.

or full court to 24 or 32.
