for the past 10 years of urban music French Montana has somehow wiggled his way....

he was doing exactly that with his DVDs while meeting people that got him the studio, then he started sneaking his own songs / interviews in there, then dropping mixtapes, etc...
french really grinded it out from the bottom people on here talk like he's an "industry plant" but don't remember what he was doing in 2007

don't act like NY has been getting any looks local cats from NY have the hardest time out of anywhere coming up they get shyt on not only by people in their own city but by everywhere else also. doing pay-to-play shows for years and shyt and having to hustle to live. like it's an easy place to make it.. sure you can meet people easier and bump into important people but does that mean you can get and more importantly hold their attention? or get them to take you serious? no. please man... :camby:french was selling DVDs on his strip and playing small shows in the area then fast forward 8 years later hes on a safari with the kardashians. how can you hate on that

I had to bold the first part of what you said because French did all of the right things at the height of the hood DVD craze. I met him back in early Cocaine City days (literally the 2nd one) when him and his peoples was trying to fukk with one of my boys to edit footage. And we knew him as Frenchy back then. His boy Cams (who has a hand in the coke boys clothing) was there also, so clearly he's making moves with people he's been with since forever. Point being that while dude riding a wave that initially started with his own thing and clearly it's a formula that works.

French is low key making hits for everyone.

If you pay attention, a lot of his ideas and concepts become other artists big records. A lot of times he's already got the beat and hook. "All the way up" is on fire right now. Perfect example

That's not what happened with All The Way Up though.

French ran with that whole 'coke boys' shyt, but he's not into the street shyt and never was.....The most credible rumor I heard is that he and his boys were more white collar......Have you ever seen this goofball on camera with some other idiot trying to give him a huge bag of flour or some shyt? It's meant to be an exposal or a prank, but you can read French's reaction, that guy has never been into bricks like that. That dude is a diva, glamour girl....

French didnt make no money off no drugs - his boys came up doing credit card scams

I dont have a moral view on that - do what u have to do to win - but it wasn't lucrative and French didnt buy his way in no game

He networked and made connections through the DVD - and credit to him, cos he was one of the pioneers of producing that kinda direct to consumer content for DVDs/ streaming internet

He then continued to make smart choices and fukk with the best people. nicca realises he needs to do it as big as possible all the time to have any chance of making it so i respect his grind

French migrated to the Bronx from North Africa at the age of 13. One has to be very invested in the street to be able to assimilate learning English and partaking in rap battles four year later. Hell Rell admitted knowing French when he came from Africa. French has been around real street crew from TS, JM, Dipset to G-unit to not ever got robbed or bullied speaks a lot about his character. I fcuk with French because as a west African immigrant who also migrated to the Bronx for as teen can relate to his success and struggle to make it out.

make sure to reap the benefits of just being present brehs. it does more than you think. if you wanna make it in your industry, come out of your house, get off the net and be everywhere people from your industry are.

also have something to offer, and dont be retarded(i.e., be easy to deal with).

french prolly checks a few of these off the list, and its gotten him where he is, plus what the dudes above me said re: his upbringing.

i aint mad at him

french seems like hes prolly biz savvy, and he seems chill and quick witted from what we see in interviews, etc.
