For those of you who've seen NBA players play in HS, how good are they?

I always pondered about this, since I havent seen this myself.

But how good are they compared to other kids. Is it really a noticeably difference in talent like that to where u just like "oh yea hes gonna make it"

saw this dude and played some pickup games with and against him in 10th and 12th grade. after i saw him play in 10th that summer played against him in pick up and ill just say it motivated me to work on my game more. he was really short at that time but highly skilled. crazy handle and quickness, could pull up at any time from deep. now, i wasnt thinking this kid is going pro because he was short, and i had no other reference.

by his senior year he had grown to be about 6'1 and he was now very explosive to go with the other stuff. the game was mad easy for him. i thought he was definitely going to play college ball, but he flew under the radar in the houston area and wasnt highly recruited. he didnt go to any big name schools but obviously still made it to the league

I saw Beal as a sophomore play Alec Burks who was a senior and it was obvious that Beal was a pro even then. Burks looked like a high D1 recruit but yeah they're typically noticeably way better than your average hs student.

I saw many NBA players play when they were younger but when I saw LeBron play it was a noticeable difference. I was in the building during this game when he came to New York to shoot the cover of Slam Magazine with him and Sebastian Telfair who was also a superstar in high school. The things he was doing on a layup line could have won most NBA Dunk Contest no bullshyt. He actually only had two points during this game. But if you know basketball you know that you were looking at an NBA player.

Shaun Livingston was the TRUTH at Peoria Central. I knew he was gonna be a lottery pick.

Iguodala was a beast at Springfield Lanphier, but his teammates Rich McBride, was the higher rated recruit.

I knew Brian Cook was a 1st Rd pick when he played for Lincoln. All his teammates were white, so he REALLY looked like the man.

The most disappointing had to be Frank Williams. I apologize to Knick fans. I thought he'd be better

It looks like they're playing a completely different sport

I saw Lebron vs my HS the year before I went there. We were either in the midst or just coming off a state 3 peat, with the NC POY in Reyshawn Terry (Small Forward, Tar Heels / Mavs). And he had absolutely fukking NOTHING for Lebron. It was honestly frightening how vast the gulf was :picard:

Chris Paul in HS? Forget about it. He did whatever he wanted to, whenever, to whomever, and as often as he wanted to. Saw him often since he went to school across town.

Seen most of this new crop of players who signed addidas. Josh jackson was a monster. Teams couldn't even inbound the ball when he was on.

Thon maker was incredible too. Had dudes on skates at 7 foot 1. He made some just breathtaking moves for his size. Was sold on him after that point.

In the opposite end Deandre Ayton didn't do a thing for me. I was like who is this big ads dude taking jumpers:dahell:. Someone get his ass in the paint :dahell:. Then I found out at the time he was the number 1 overall prospect in his class

We played Stromile Swift in H.S. :flabbynsick: Dude was like 6'10 even back then, dude roasted our team like a Prime Tim Duncan, all post moves and off the glass type of shoots. He moved like he was practicing moves with no defenders around. Everything was fluent and precise. Everyone knew he was NBA bound.

Crazy how he turned into a totally different type of player in the NBA. Maybe it was the systems. :yeshrug:

Got to see Rashad Lewis play at my high school (I was in middle school at the time). He peaked super early but it was obvious he was NBA ready even by his junior year. My older sister had a shot at dating him but she wanted his older brother and lost big time on that one lol. He played for the Chicago bears for one year as an undrafted rookie and never did anything with his life after that.

I grew up playing with Marcus Thornton, dude was clearly a better shooter than anyone in the neighborhood/division. He'd shoot from the bleachers while the rest of us worked on free throws.

Edit: I see someone resurrected this thread and this post is getting more attention, but I want to clarify that when I say he was shooting from the bleachers I'm not exaggerating.
