Serious question.

How many Black people in this thread have ever had their right to vote denied?

Because I’ve been voting in every local and national election since 1998 , in 3 Southern states and it’s never happened to me or any Black person I’ve ever known.

Good grief.

Or it could be that liberal white women trick you into thinking they are your intersectional allies, then go into the booth and vote for their best interest by staying on code with their Republican fathers, husbands, brothers and sons.

And the slick part is these will be the same white women that will join you and rally and protest against voter suppression and gerrymandering. They’ll even write think pieces about it. That can be use as sources for conversations like these.

This is such a weird response to dudes post.

The irony is blacks in North Carolina are doing way better than Blacks in OP's state California.
Charlotte and Raleigh have middle class black communities. But there's plenty of Black poverty throughout the metro of Charlotte(due to the Mills closing). And there's plenty of gentrification pushing native black Charlotteans to the North side of Charlotte. And plenty of Black poverty in the eastern half of the state. It's not all roses for all black ppl down here. Don't get it twisted.

:hubie:

Sure if you're a black transplant with a degree and already have a job lined up, Charlotte and NC is easily a top 3 relocation City/State. But alot of black ppl who aren't in that special bracket or aren't in banking, are going through hard times.

Which states and which towns?
Do you have any specific examples of how it’s happened?

I live in N.C. too for what it’s worth. I have a vested interest.
Where in NC?

Where in NC?

:mjpls:

Dekalb County Georgia
Prince William County Virginia
Wake County North Carolina

My community in Prince William County was 50% Black

My community in Dekalb was 80% Black

Where I live in Wake is about 90% Black

My kids went to all Black private schools. My wife and I both attended HBCUs in the South. We have never met anyone that was denied to right to vote.

No Black person in this thread can truthfully say they have ever been denied the right to vote.

But when I go to some media outlets it’s being presented as some type of epidemic. Whenever I question the true effect I’m accused of being white or a Russian bot.

Republicans are evil, but North Carolina Republicans are extra evil
Replace the word Republicans with White People and let’s have a real conversation about how we are going to overcome the evil.

Or just keep saying and doing the exact same thing we’ve been doing for the past 50 years and maybe some good white liberals will finally come and save us.

I mean, look at the Florida felons rights being restored by the voters, only for Florida lawmakers to essentially place a polling tax on those same felons. I believe it’s 1/3 or 1/4 black men can’t vote in the state of Florida

Dems will screw us over less than Reps but they aren't our friends.
That’s why even tho I have critiques for dems

It’s fukk GOP til the end of time

Yup.

I'm not saying they the same, wouldn't say that. But when you got Kamala Harris and Joe Budden being pushed you know you fukked

If Democrats really cared they push Marianne and Bernie

Ain't Texas red? How many dudes in here brag about Texas?

That's why you got to force their hand. The power centers in both parties have too much invested in the status quo.

Republicans want to destroy Black power. Establishment Democrats want to assimilate Black power without really changing anything. That's why you got to support those people (third party or radical dems or whatever) who don't fukk with the Republicans OR the establishment Democrats and who are actually willing to change the system.

So what’s your solution?
I think starting in 2020, every Black citizen over the age of the 18 should register as an independent. Be clear on your registration form that you are categorized as an African American.

We need to come up with one specific agenda to focus on per election and mid term. Search out for which candidate is in support of that agenda as their priority. Ignore the candidates race, age, gender or political party affiliation. Keep a tunnel vision approach of the goal of having that specific agenda accomplished

Remove emotion and feelings from this process. Don’t search for the perfect candidate. Don’t search for a candidate that only speaks your language or shares your values. Just search for someone that can be bought.

Have full throated support for that candidate through cultural and actual capital. Take that 10% that many of us are giving to these churches and put it towards that candidate.

Then win or lose, next election follow the same process with a different candidate and agenda. Stop trying to win all of our freedom and progress with one candidate. Chip away at it piece by piece and continue to build on each small victory.

We need to become permanent political free agents. Imagine 14% of the population sitting on the fence every election and becoming completely unpredictable. It’s puts us in a position where we are able to be negotiated with instead of just pandered to.

We need to treat politics as an Au la carte menu and not the crips vs bloods or good vs evil.

Every other ethnic group has taken bits and pieces of what they want from each side of the aisle.

We are the last group saying “We are staying right over here and ain’t nothing or nobody gonna move is!”

Even Latinos are starting to diversify.

The majority of the Black population in this country lives in Liberal areas.

Even in states like Alabama the majority of Black votes will be coming from relatively progressive cities like Birmingham.

So are you saying that this voter suppression epidemic is a major issue for our Black brothers and sisters in states like Montana, Vermont and South Dakota?

It seems like the cities where the vast majority of us live and work, voting freely isn’t a real issue.

Our bigger problem is having an option of voting for a candidate with a specific Black agenda. I think sometimes we are being purposely distracted into being caught up with the process instead of actual policy.
