Joe was hinting that was the plan, but he didn’t expect Mal to side with Rory. The one dynamic that changed the most was those two not being cool anymore, and you could tell it bothers Joe. Joe doesn’t act with any of the new hosts like he does with Mal. That was his mans.
But on another note, I think the three of them really needed to take a break because the pod became Joe incessantly yelling for like six months. That’s when people on here were mentioning the quality going down. Covid fukked with them really hard, and the energy was never there when they finally got back together. Always felt like if they took a month off to figure shyt out instead of airing things out, they’d be stronger and still making the pod.
As for OP, I agree. Pods in general have fallen off. Pandemic gave everyone a pod and it became too over-saturated. I don’t really listen to JPB as much or even look forward to it. RNM is just bad, every time I go back to it, I realize how poorly organized it is. Nowadays, I’m listening to True Crime pods like some cac from Brooklyn, or listening to music. I think the bubble just burst and every pod went down in quality. Most of them do the same shyt and just watch timelines and bring the same tired takes.

I'm in the same spot as you OP, I don't have any current hip-hop pod that I listen to every episode of. I will check out a Drink Champs or Math Hoffa ep if either show has a guest who I fukk with, but that's about it. Sad times tbh

I hate acronyms too, but it's a podcast thread on a hip hop site, so I figured the name of a top 5 hip-hop podcast wouldn't have to be typed out. It'd be like going into a Basketball thread and dudes are referring to a point guard by calling him 30 and being like WHO IS THAT

In retrospect, I think it was the other way around and Rory was a way stronger addition than Mal and Ice have ever been. Ish, Flip and Mel are getting up there but lowkey, I feel like if Mal would have left, and we replace Ice with Rory then we would have a perfect podcast.
Mal was a great addition at first but bro was bullshytting for damn near a year straight and got horrible towards the end. It did feel like he felt like he was getting really industry and didn't need this. Coincidentally, you hear 0 about bro anymore anywhere doing anything
