:beli: Unless Floyd is creating his own cable network, he still needs a network to provide his platform (and Floyd ain't fighting on CBS live anytime soon). Showtime IMO didn't provide the promotion this fight needed to have a return Showtime "assumed" they'd get, even by fighting Robert Guerrero.

To me, I think Showtime's mentality was based on Floyd's track record, he could fight anyone and it'll be a Million PPV buys. If HBO was THAT confident in Floyd based on the list of fights ahead, I think they would've thrown the kitchen sink plus the sponges to Floyd.

That's because NOBODY cares. To the average casual boxing fan, these guys Floyd is fighting are no-names.

Nobody is buying any PPV until, if ever, Floyd fights Pac.

:manny: The only way I see that fight ever generating a remotely similar buzz is if Floyd loses, takes a year off and Manny beats Rios and winner of Marquez vs Bradley and Floyd comes out after a year absence and fights Manny right away. Crazier things have happened, but...:upsetfavre:

Mayweather’s guarantee for the Guerrero fight was $32 million, tied for the biggest ever in boxing, but his additional haul from his cut of PPV revenue is expected to be minimal. The large Mayweather guarantee and significant promotional budget resulted in a loss of as much as $12 million for Showtime for the fight, according to one source. A Showtime spokesperson described the purported losses as “pure fiction” and characterized the unnamed industry source as “badly misinformed.”
Gotdamn people don't read. 1st of all this is a slanted ass article. 2nd, Forbes isn't saying that the Guererro fight lost $12m, it's just repeating a rumor. It also quotes aswomend from Showtime who denies the rumor. This is why people are so easily manipulated, they're dumb as fukk.

Honestly, I think as long as Floyd wins in Sept, Manny wins in Nov, they could get it done next spring. Mannys gone on record about accepting a 40-60 split and submitting to drug testing, so i really cant see why Floyd wouldnt take his biggest payday. Oh wait, he doesnt want to take the risk...:patrice:

Fans being manipulated from rumors in Boxing??? That never happens :smugfavre:

What I personally gather is the fight itself didn't do as well as expected. Had the PPV been a home run I have no doubt there would be press releases from CBS / Showtime on how great of an event it was and how much of an asset Floyd is. What we got instead was Schaeffer and the head of Showtime Sports (GBP former lawyer) saying, "That's blasphemous, the fight did great" :stopitslime:. Arum did the same thing with Pacquiao vs Mosley where he was claiming it did over a Million buys, but we saw nothing of the sorts and the same was being mentioned by writers, etc about the fight doing much less than expected.

Many of us were :gladbron: at hearing Mayweather vs Canelo being signed for September instead of what many of us thought would be a 2014 affair. But are we to really believe we're getting this fight because "The Fans Are Asking For It???" :shaq2: or maybe they need a BIG 2nd outing for Floyd?

Another note too not having to do with Floyd, but I think HBO's overall promotion of Boxing on PPV is >>>>>>>>>>> Showtime based on their track record and presentation alone. When HBO promoted a Mayweather fight, YOU KNEW. With the Guerrero fight, I almost forgot at times the fight was 2 weeks away :heh:

I actually think it's going to be harder to make now than before. Both HBO and Showtime now are in a position similar to Pro Wrestling or UFC where (minus fighting Shaw and Dibella fighters) they're gonna keep fights in house. For them to make that fight now, they gotta go through Al Haymon, GBP, Top Rank, HBO, Showtime and figure out not only the split between the fighters and promoters, but also the competing networks. In the past both HBO and Showtime were able to make Tyson vs Lewis while both fought on different networks, but the landscape and business model for Boxing then and now are totally different. Quite frankly, when all is said and done, I think GBP makes close to what they would've made with Mayweather vs Pacquiao being they're keeping a much bigger piece of the pie.

I felt the rumors of the fight flopping were pretty much confirmed once Floyd vs. Canelo was announced for Sept. Only reason this fight is happening so soon is because they need to recoup the losses from the 1st fight.

Side note: It's wild that 850k buys can be a flop. Showtime obviously way over shot the budget because there is no way you should not be able to profit from that.

I really couldn't care less about your guesstimations and speculations. Your title is is false. Forbes.com did not claim that Showtime lost $12m on the May-Guerrero fight. Either you didn't read the article that you posted or you're deliberately trying to mislead people.

What's worse is what happens AFTER the Canelo fight? He has about 4 fights left, who is Floyd gonna fight to prevent Showtime from going bankrupt.

:blessed: Thank You!

Thing is, some people look at it as a diss to Floyd, but look...it is what it is. In the big scheme of things, anything over 600K buys is a damn good outing. But, we're dealing with the PPV King here who averages well above 1 Mill buys a fight. His expectations are supposed to be that high. As I've mentioned before, Showtime to me took a gamble with Floyd. I believe Floyd walked away from HBO because they didn't give him the guarantee he was asking for based on the fights that were being presented.

Nobody is being misled whatsoever unless people simply forgot how to read and or click a link to the actual source :youngsabo:

Koncz already confirmed that Pacs NOT under contract with HBO and that if they had to go to SHO for the fight, they could and would.
