people have a hard time understanding your parents? I just had this tlk with my bro and we was just like wtf is wrong with people, our parents be talking well and all dat even tho they gotta accent. my homies be like they sometimes dnt understand shyt and just be noddin or sometimes i gotta tlk to people over the phone when my peoples doin shyt idk maybe cuz i grew up around them and shyt I'm better equipped at deciphering. share stories and incidents thot this wld be a fun thread

Glad somebody bought this up, because most times it is done on purpose. People will pretend not to understand as a way of "othering" you or trying to knock your parents back out of some petty jealousy.

You see this happen when you learn new languages too that aren't related to your race.You could speak perfectly, but the person you are talking to simply doesn't want to accept you or your education.

Happens to white people all the time in Asia, they spend years living and learning the language, and everyday at least 5 asian people pretend not to understand a single word that the white person is saying, some take it all the way and even ask the non- language speaking asian friend of the white person for a translation. It's mindgames most of the time.

I don't get it. My Dad's english is better than most english speakers and people have the audacity to be perturbed about how he speaks like they can't understand this man. Sometimes I've had to step in on my Dad's behalf at people like:
