Sounds like you are referring to Billboard nonsense when none of that applies to Hip Hop. There are tons of songs that are hits in Hip Hop that never resonated outside of Hip Hop or Billboard.

Let me tell you why that Billboard barometer doesn't apply. Treat Em Right by Chubb Rock is an undeniable Hit Hop hit. But only went #73 on Billboard. One Mic which you just said isn't a hit was #43 on Billboard. So by your standard Treat'em Right isn't a hit.
