Former Coli breh DJ Akademiks believes that 70% of black women are alcoholics. Does he have a point?

Depends on your what your definition of an alcoholic is but yeah 55% is probably too high too.
I mean from a pure numbers perspective. Let assume we are talking about about women between the age 21 and 40.
If every single one of them are alcoholics. Not a single one that doesn't have a drinking problem. That would only account for just 40% of all women.
So that would mean that extra 15% is either coming from children, upper middle aged women, or elderly women.
Now i know its possible for some young and old people to have drinking issues but i would suspect that the % is much lower in those demographics.

Plus its very unlikely that 100% of the women aged 21 to 40 are alcoholics. I met women in the age range who aren't. I'm everybody else in this thread has too. Lets be generous and say half of them are. That would still only be 20% right there.
Unless elderly and underage drink a whole lot more than 21 to 40 years olds do, there is no way you are getting close to that number of 55%.

I suspect to real the number is probably in the single digits. 5 to 8% at most. 8% is a very large number in this context and will still be indicative of a troubling trend. but 55% is impossibly large.

Agreed, I wasn’t taking it literally as all women. I was speaking to the 21 to mid 40s demo that you mentioned. 55% is too high but I wouldn’t say it’s 8% either. If you consider a heavy drinker could be labeled an alcoholic. Heavy drinking is considered 8 or more drinks in a week for women. I know a strong 3 out of 10 women that do that easily when you include glasses of wine after work to relax or with dinner and weekend social events. Maybe not every single week but they’ll hit that mark more often than not.
