Facebook has settings where you can create a list to filter your friends accordingly. And I've beta tested quite a few Google products, quantity means very little to Google, or Facebook for that matter. Have you ever seen a page with over a million "likes" and no verification badge? That's because most social networking platforms' algorithms check for unique visitors who STAY engaged. I believe you mean urban or black demographic when you say "ghetto" and us people are actually the majority of users with disposable income, which is why Worldstar is worth over an estimated $3 million. And he's just one content website.
Your friend list caliber is a reflection of your life, maybe you find your family annoying and ghetto because your hate is internalized.

I use both Facebook and Google Plus. Facebook does what it does perfectly. What Google Plus is supposed to excel at is building up communities and connecting people with likeminded interests.
In my personal experience, the only thing google plus excels at is it's integration with other google features like Blogger and YouTube.
Google Plus itself is a fukking pain in the ass.
I like google plus though simply cause of the page view counter. Facebook doesn't have that.

What advantage?
Facebook is taking advertising market share away from Google in the mobile space. And mobile is where things matter most nowadays.
Chrysler and Mercedes are moving forward with fully autonomous vehicles, Minority Report, iRobot type joints. They were forced to speed up research because of Google's autonomous car. There's four states that have already approved testing on public roads.
These cars will most likely utilize Google Maps, which is personalized for many Android users. If Google personalizes Google+ in a truly respectful and resourceful manner, they can acquire some of Facebook's users for sure. However, Facebook owns Bing which is Google Map's only worthy competitor.
Surely advertising with be part of this, no different than Subway ads for MTA, it's all about branding.

"Own" is a very loose term, when you're dealing with preferred stocks.
Microsoft owns about 2% of Facebook, and in turn Facebook has access to Skype and Bing widening their database, with access to a larger search engine. I can't really get into detail, but how long to do you think before Facebook roles out an operating system? Facebook and Google are in the same race, just taking a different path to the finish line.
There was just a panel where Mark said he's actually gonna give free internet to the poor in third world countries. They're gonna need non-profit operating systems right? ...Who do you think is gonna supply the resources?
