Kobe was good/but overrated defensively imo all of the top sg's in his era cooked him on a nice clip. Plus he always had bigs in the paint to cover a lot.
No, they didn’t because he wasn’t consistently guarding them after like 01. He would lock up for stretches but otherwise, he was scoring 30 a night. He was given those awards for being a good to great defender given his workload. But the award wasn’t given to straight specialists back then - it was disproportionately given to star players.
