Forum idea: Split this place into 3 sections or keep it as it is?

Should TLR be split?

That's the worst analogy I've ever read. :russ:
What you're saying won't work though. People are heavily opposed to their threads being moved to different forums if they feel they can have their discussion elsewhere. They "make themselves at home" in certain parts of the forum. That is why the college sub-forum in HL collapsed, people would get upset when their threads would get moved from TLR to there and it had low traffic. At the end of the day, people on here want to do whatever they want and they don't want there to be ANY rules as much as they claim they do. They only want rules when they get personally annoyed or offended. If anything we do looks random it is because we are responding on an ad hoc basis as opposed to a wholesale policy because as soon as that happens we get called "repressive" or acting like the seum. In actuality, we probably don't do anything about 98% of reported posts.

TLR is supposed to be the general discussion forum. JBO is supposed to be where the fukkery is but when we move threads there...people complain that we sent them there to die. But we didn't make that place dead, the forum members did. Basically, no matter how you design the board, it will eventually become the way it is again unless we form some sort of consensus. Now I don't post all that much in TLR, so I can't speak to what this "crisis" is but it could probably be easily averted if people were susceptible to actually using the current sub-forums as they are designed instead of setting up shop in certain areas. :manny:

Exactly.

I don't mind the mayhem, it just needs its own place when it goes too far or becomes redundant. All forums should be able to use this section, I'm sure you'll like that since my Kobe stans do a good job of annoying everybody. :smugbiden:

That's a "bad cop" approach which I don't think is necessary though. If the issue is redundancy, race baiting, simp threads, trolling, gender wars, females being chased off, etc then why not just give people respective corners to go to(or be sent to) that way mods aren't spending all day deleting, closing, merging, moving, etc.

I guess were gonna have to disagree, I dont think its user friendly to have sub forum after sub forum.....

plus I dont think it would be effective because every sub forum would be trolled, thats the whole point of trolling, so in the end the mods would still end up closing, moving, deleting etc...

I'm pretty sure you know exactly where I got this idea from. It's the one thing I think that place had over :hamster:

When this place first opened I asked @bk to make a JBO specifically for trolling, fukkery, etc but the problem is that section is closed off so it just became a section for porn. So yeah, threads do go there to die because if someone don't got the posts to be in there it's pointless. Besides, Race track is in there and its more or less become a troll section like I'm suggesting. The problem is if posters don't see those alternative sections then they won't go. If you make all 3 of these new forums alongside one another at least people will see the sections and go there, in time new environments can be created from it and this place can naturally improve.

My brehs work damn hard at it too....

Fair enough, I don't think 2 extra forums, maybe even one if we just remodelled Race Track and TLR, wouldn't be that harmful for users. Turn Race Track into a tucked away section for the coli's most vile, if we can lock people out of JBO, super ignore, and ban, then why can't repeat offenders just get placed into a section for them to let off all the troll steam? I'm sure it can be done.

Either way, someone's going to have a problem.

If the mods exert more force then people will compare it to SOHH and say how the mods are doing too much.

If the mods stay the way they are then people will say the mods aren't doing anything and showing favoritism.

Breaking up the forum into more section is good and bad.

The members who know this site for what it is will definitely have a problem with it.

Newer members won't since they will need to pick a sub forum to use and post there depending on their interest and what they want to say.

When I signed up for this site I was looking to make a thread for a specific subject and TLR was fitting for the thread.

You missed the part where mods or admins can lock them in a troll section if they take it too far. Lets admit, some trolling is funny and some isn't. Send em to the island of misfit posters and let them learn how to troll if they want to do it, or just learn how to post without trolling. :ld:

This is impossible as trolling totally depends on who is doing what and where. There is trolling in every subforum on this site. All of them. Trolling does not have to be heavy handed or obvious, nor does it have to be funny or have a purpose to be good.

Is there really enough traffic here to warrant more division?

I think it may draw more traffic, pushes away less people. At the least, the female poster pop could increase having a female friendly section. In the long term, shyt will prolly be more functional. :ehh:

Edit: I know there's trolling all over the forum @concise that's why I'm suggesting a troll section to send them to. Its simple, after a certain number of infractions send the troll to the troll only section. It's no different than banning, except at least it gives them a chance to regain their full posting privileges.

I know all this seems radical, but I think it's just as wild to stuff damn near all other things under the sun into one sub forum.

yup and it was already said by bk that most posters NEVER leave tlr. they dont really venture out and post in the other sections. also people are too concerned with threads doing numbers :ld:

but i get with Quik is saying, the other place made it work by creating an alternative. so if you got sick of all the bullshyt in tlr, another section would be your spot.

Well yeah of course most posters never leave tlr cuz its for everything else. Doesn't mean it works to put everything else into one place. If brehs want their threads to do numbers with the idea I'm proposing they'd have to actually be good thread makers instead of posting the same shyt because it don't fit nowhere else. :ld:

How many infractions do you think anyone repping LWO or HeatNation would rack up under such a system? :comeon:

Nah, I hear you and @2Quik4UHoes. But rules, or divisions, won't mean anything if people don't follow them. We've floated around sub-forum ideas before but ultimately knew that people would not post in them. If that changes, then I don't see why not....but I don't know if you have the support for it....especially that troll forum idea....that's HIGHLY subjective
