Yeah, citation practices can have great leeway depending on discipline, usage, and citation format. As long as you can justify it well enough and your argument merits its usage.

Her decision to cite the coki was a practical decision. She seems to have enough self awareness to be sensitive of pitting Black public figures against each other.
To bolster the case that some like or were offended by the show, she opted to NOT use a public statement by a Black media critic or talking head who criticized the show. She used a public "Black" forum to cite those feelings being expressed.
