let me ask yall this: why is nbc sports so much more popular than cbs sports network on here?

as for the thread, if they want to truly rival espn, theyre going to have to do 3 things:
1.) be able to provide news coverage on the spot.
2.) have talk shows with competitive banter.
3.) carve their own niche.....CHECK. they seem to have done this already.

This is why I think ESPN will always be on top, beating ESPN at their own game will take more than Erin and Clarissa. 1. No one can really touch ESPN here with the exception of Yahoo sports, ESPN is pretty good with an overall sport coverage, NBC and FOX might have them on football and/or baseball but in general ESPN is quick enough that even if they are not actually first no one cares in this internet age.

Your second point is where I think Fox could steal some of ESPN's thunder. They have the personalities to rival a First Take, ATH and PTI but they have to do it in a way that's not a blatant ripoff and even if it is a ripoff it better be so good that no one cares. Like Fox Sports hiring Rigis, Gary Payton and McNabb? I like Regis and the Glove and all but that's not making change the channel from SAS and Skip, Magic and Bill Simmons.

3. This will make or break Fox Sports, I think people will tune in (myself included) just because I'm burned out on ESPN running every story into the ground (OTL is cool, though for the way they present their stories) and just want something different, they need that one show to make people tune in and that's a big challenge with ESPN having major control over the GOAT sports.

I agree, But I do think it is room for another major sports network. I do believe Espn does have to much influence on things such as the Heisman votes etc. We shall see. Fox have always been underestimated and they have always delivered so far.

People forget Fox tried this before. "Best Damn Sports Show" was suppose the be the flagship show. I'm not sure why this will work now. ESPN is triple what it was back when it beat the original Fox Sports channel. Max Kellerman originally left Around the Horn for his own show like it on Fox and it bombed. Same for the radio side when SAS was banished, he got a Fox Sports Radio show. But as soon as ESPN told him he could come back, SAS left that show with no warning...

Yea I was about to say didn't they already have a network like this that flopped? The sports programs like college football and UFC will do well but will people stick around for Erin Andrews or Gary Payton slobbering all over himself? The fact that major network such as fox hasn't made a deal with major satellite providers a week before launch is not a good sign

fox sportnet was a completely different animal.

"best damn sports show" was a big deal, especially considering that it came on late at night.

I don't watch any of these sports shows except ROME on CBSsports. Other than some of their NBA stuff and their draft coverage on espn.com I try to avoid ESPN since they shyt on the Raiders all the time.

Fox Sports 1 will launch with major cable, satellite providers showing the network

Fox Sports 1 should launch with few hiccups Saturday as Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, DirecTV and Dish all have agreed to show the new network that will replace Speed.

The SportsBusiness Journal reported Wednesday night DirecTV, Time Warner Cable and Bright House will carry the channel even if they have not finalized carriage agreements by Saturday. The Los Angeles Times reported that Dish will do the same.

Speed is in nearly 86 million homes, and Fox Sports 1–anchored by NASCAR, baseball, college sports and UFC –is expected to be in 90 million homes at its launch Saturday as it should be carried by all major cable operators and satellite operators.

According to the SportsBusiness Journal, Speed costs about 23 cents each month per subscriber, and Fox was looking to increase that to 80 cents per month at launch.

NASCAR programming will be some of the first programming the network is scheduled to deliver. Originating from Michigan International Speedway, Fox Sports 1 will air NASCAR Live at 8 a.m. Saturday followed by Sprint Cup Series practice at 8:30 a.m., Camping World Truck Series qualifying at 9:30 a.m., Cup practice at 11 a.m., the truck pre-race show at noon and the race at 12:30 p.m.

On Sunday, NASCAR RaceDay is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Fox Sports 1 and then NASCAR Victory Lane is set for 7 p.m.

MIS President Roger Curtis expressed confidence earlier Wednesday that agreements will be reached.

“We know our friends from Fox are working very closely with the cable providers to make sure the new Fox Sports 1 is available to as many fans as possible,” Curtis said. “And we’re confident they’ll work out all the contracts.”

Fox also is launching Fox Sports 2 this weekend in place of Fuel. Fox Sports 2 will have truck qualifying and modified race Wednesday from Bristol.

The changes also have provided angst for fans in Canada, where Fox Sports 1 has not yet gotten approval. The Speed channel that remains on Canadian television providers will carry the Fox Sports 1 coverage from Michigan.
