I'm lost on some cats mentioning about it not sounding like NU or CO...why would he keep making the same sounding projects? That's the opposite of what an artist should do.

This is why most artists dont fukk with their fans, they dont understand the concept of progression (or imo, getting bored of making the same thing)

Not to mention their lives and perspectives change. He can't make another NU..his life is at a different point than where it was 5 years ago.

I don't think most people want a nostalgia, ultra redux but more of how they felt about it. Or at least that's where I'm coming from. The only song that needed to grow on me past one listen was lovecrimes.

And I'd even say progression isn't inherently better because its different. It's just different.

I'm a frank ocean fan and I really been looking forward to this album but nearly all of these tracks feel like they are missing something. The only song I can really vibe to on this album is Pink+White (Nights is cool too). The rest is lacking in the actual instrumentals, like a lack of bass or something. I guess I set myself up for failure expecting another nostalgia ultra or channel orange.
with me..i went into this album not expecting anything...like i did with nostalgia ultra n channel orange

anderson paak has him not by much..this album has replay value it grows on u...

i aint figured out endless yet..

The highlights for me are:

Pink + Blue, prolly the most immediately accessible record on here
Self Control, that little high pitched voice been in my head all day
Nights, that 2nd beat....my gawd...

so Pharrell did Pink and White? dont know why Pharrell aint in everyone's top 5 modern day producers.

Anyway, played this album a few times.. It has too many interlude type records.

I respect going left, but I WANT full songs. Album feels like one big interlude.:patrice:

I aint sayin all progression is good. It just is what it is. Everybody here prolly went thru changes that weren't "good" but it's impossible to go back to how we were prior to that change, idk why people think it's any different for artists

I just came in here to say. Hype won again. Same as with Adele.

Frank can not sing. He has a very limited range and strains when he tries to belt high notes, which is why he rarely does it. His voice is nothing special. Also, his music is boring. Miguel and a few other people are much better singers Miguel is a better song writer. Idk how some of you call jcole boring and r&b artists excluding frank boring when most of frank's music sound like lullabies.

Yeah..he's not technically a great singer like Miguel or Tank or any other vocally talent artists in RnB..I think the appeal comes from the fact that his musicianship/musicality is just THAT strong. The way he phrases his notes, his harmonic structures, chord progressions and how it melds seamlessly into his music. It's effective enough to get around the fact that he isn't vocally great. That coupled with powerful lyricism and melodic creativity ..he has a real affinity for it, despite his actual voice being a bit mundane. His vocal competency shows itself on songs like Solo, Godspeed, and Self-Control.. smooth, soothing and "affecting"..

The production and lyricism on White Ferrari, Godspeed, and Self-Control going into Good Guy is STELLAR...the outro and vocal production on the last two minutes on White Ferrari shyts on anything in 2016 (IMO)..the man has a gift for composition

His harmoies are basic. Melodies as well. Same ones from his last album that many have used since then. His music sound like soundcloud stuff. Tone is horrid. Lyrics are ok. People overate them only bc most of the other artists are only talking about fcking, flashy life and partying in their music. It's all hype, just like Adele.

Of course people caught in it wouldn't be able to see it. At least you admitted to him not being able to sing very well.
