His harmoies are basic. Melodies as well. Same ones from his last album that many have used since then. Tone is horrid. Lyrics are ok. People overate them only bc most of the other artists are only talking about fcking, flashy life and partying in their music. It's all hype, just like Adele.

Of course people caught in it wouldn't be able to see it. At least you admitted to him not being able to sing very well.
Breh..I'm just going by what I hear man. I could see basic harmonies being simple 2 note chords stacked on a bar like most Pop/RnB singers, but when it comes to crafting carefully minor chord structures that are mere semitones apart, while modulating up and down that staff..nothing about that is basic, bro. Dude has a ear..and it's about the placement too.,. He chooses to layer on certain words or phrases to build the sentiment of the song..it's nothing arbituary
A standout is the crazy complex harmonic structure is in White Ferrari.. I think the word is on "forever

start from 1:25-1:30 and then the backing vocals where he threads his ad-libs into the stacked vocals in a way that resembles real RnB melismatic singers like Brandy etc.. his interpretive wit and musicianship is really legit (IMO)..His downfall in my eyes is the live vocals where his flaws began to show (I.e-keeping intonation, breath support, and over-exertion causing strain).

That harmony that you gave as an example sounded terrible, like a jumbled mess and proves my point even further. If you want to hear good complex harmonies, listen to the backing vocals of beyonce's old songs. Those are complex, clean, organized and on key.
I study this, so I would know.

I guess It's all subjective.. I think it sounded good, bro.
I know Beyonce's good with vocal stacking/layering due to her strong foundation in destiny's child!
Although I prefer Brandy in this area, myself..she's a bit more melodically ambitious and she's naturally a bit more textured (colorful) so it sounds better

Beyonce's good, but Brandy on another level when it comes to crafting chord progressions ..accurate, creative, and effortless. Voice like a literal instrument, breh..

I still don't know he got THE Kim Burrell for the outro of Godspeed...this woman's melismatic ability is on another level

notable mention to those chord progressions during the intro before the vocals start
