I don't get why people came into this expecting Channel Orange, I sure as hell didn't.

Why would an artist, an artist of Frank's caliber especially, take four years working on this album, just for it to sound like his previous material? :mindblown:
A great portion of coli dudes have very weak music taste when it comes to something innovative and fresh.
Nearly every album that has dropped that has been on that shyt has got hate on this site, or no response at all.

I'm really liking Solo for some reason...it's like this medatative prayer hymnal about a story about his experience with acid (after the handoff with Be Yourself where Frank's mom's warning him about the dangers of drugs).. opposing ideas; the placement of these two tracks is ironic in itself..
I'm listening to Solo and aside from the lyricism (which is pretty tight as usual)..get into the progression chords that make up the melody..it's a static structure that just builds tension throughout the entire song..you keep waiting for the melody to resolve, over and over..it never does (sort of like it's teasing you), until the last bar of the song where you FINALLY get the harmonic resolution. ..strange interpretation. It works, though...

Tricky Stewart Talks Frank Ocean

http://www.thefader.com/2016/08/26/f...wart-interview

On spotting genius, and why the industry shouldn’t be surprised by Frank Ocean’s independence.

"At the time, with every record I was doing for Def Jam, we were on fire, whether it was Justin Bieber or Rihanna. My first artist at Def Jam was The-Dream, and he had done extremely well, withLove/Hate and Love vs. Money. So I’m thinking it’s going to be gravy bringing my next guy through. I’m thinking when I bring in my stuff, I’m going to get the love. But it was a complete uphill battle. We were getting stonewalled. The truth is, if it wasn’t for Chris Clancy and the Odd Future team embracing Frank, we may not even know who Frank is today. On the Def Jam side, I couldn’t get nobody to pay attention to him."

"At the end of the day, I think Def Jam created a monster that they couldn’t control. He just treated them how he was treated. There’s too many artists out here with that story. Luckily for Frank, he was able to turn a negative time and a negative period into something that worked for him and his family."

This album is good. I acknowledge it, and its not appropriate for every setting, but there is a lot of creative songwriting and song structure here. Also a terrific mix.

That said, this album is being painfully overrated by critics and social media. Painfully. Overrated.
