My namesake lol. Top 3 inspiration for me as a psychologist. I was lucky to go to a very prestigious Clinical Psychology doctoral program that's known for being really progressive and socially conscious, where we read a LOT of philosophy, and Fanon was a huge influence there, even offered a class on him. I teach a class on the history of psychology and for the midterm I have my students do a project on a notable black psychologist. I always try to steer people towards a Fanon project, because you really don't learn that shyt anywhere else in a traditional psych curriculum.

UCLA?

I know their ECT covers a lot of his work.

Not UCLA, but I'd rather not say, as my post history on here is small and I've shared enough info about me for somebody dedicated enough and weird enough to piece together my identity rather easily if they knew where I got my degree. Fanon's influence on academia has really been relegated to the humanities, like literature and philosophy departments and such, and most people in the field of psychology these days have unfortunately never even heard of him, especially in the United States. My professors that studied Fanon are all clinical psychologists, and as patient-facing scholars, there was a lot of time spent not just grappling with his theories, but also the clinical implications of his work and what it means for practicing in a culturally competent way. A great deal of it has provided me a foundation for how I think about mental illness and treatment, as well as helped to clarify my own professional identity and sense of ethics as a psychologist, especially a black one. Two faculty members from the department just contributed to compiling and publishing an anthology with some of the leading Fanon scholars in the world a few years ago actually.
