Been a fan for years now and this more of the same and I'm cool with it.

Don't get me wrong, I love MadGibbs but the sound he has found since working with Madlib is so dope. This project reminds me of a modern UGK and I think this works really well for him. I'm kinda glad his projects without Madlib don't sound like Piñata because then it makes their collaborations mean more.

I've got Gibbs in the same bracket as ghostface and others who seem to have an intuitive understanding of what makes for great music that they can pour their soul into. Always evolving and not afraid to take chances, but also never overextending into corniness as they know exactly who they are and what they can bring to the table. Whoever thought someone like Gibbs would make 'basketball wives' work?

He's doing an updated version of that sorta melancholy but unapologetic street shyt that UGK, Scarface and Nas all did really well at one point. He does it well imo. My only criticism is that a lot (but def not all) of his verses feel interchangeable. like I can't imagine diamonds and wood or nas' heaven verses on any other beat/songs but sometimes you could mix and match Gibbs verses/beats and it wouldn't really change much.

Still one of my favorites of the current crop and still think thuggin is one of the best hip hop songs since it came out. Not a lot touches it.
